Innovative solutions for energy supply applications

Pumps and valves from KSB ensure smooth operation in power stations around the world.

Efficiency and reliability are the key features of power station pumps and valves from KSB. Energy suppliers also value numerous other benefits offered by our technologies.

Rising energy demand and need for climate protection

Meeting the rising demand for energy while fulfilling high requirements to protect the climate and environment – as a long-standing partner to energy producers, we have an in-depth knowledge of the challenges faced by the energy industry.

Working together with our customers, we develop innovative solutions that comply with all reliability, safety and efficiency requirements.

Our valves and pumps are used in all areas of the energy industry today. For example:

  • Fossil-fuelled power plants
  • Nuclear power plants
  • Renewable energies such as biomass power plants
  • Waste-to-energy plants for producing electricity and district heat
The HG pump is a multistage ring-section pump with radial impellers.

The HG pump is also used to handle feed water and condensate in power stations and industrial plants.

KSB solutions for renewable energies

Our pumps and valves for renewable energy applications are extremely robust, reliably withstanding even the most aggressive environmental conditions. This reduces maintenance, repair and life cycle costs to a minimum while improving economic efficiency.

In order to provide efficient service in the renewable energies sector, selecting the right individual components is very important. For example, for biomass power plants KSB uses proven standard components that are each optimised to meet the exact requirements of the customer.

Applications in biomass power plants include the use of  boiler feed pumps, condensate pumps and cooling water pumps, for example.

Flexibility for fossil-fuelled power plants

Thanks to wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials developed in-house, our power station pumps and valves are extremely economical and reliable. KSB pumps make a decisive contribution to achieving the high efficiencies of today’s conventional power stations. By enabling considerable energy savings, they help to reduce CO2 emissions. KSB customers benefit from certainty in planning and costs which is essential for the sensitive energy market.

To ensure that KSB pumps and valves for power stations can be tested under real conditions, KSB operates a test facility with a 20-megawatt motor at its Frankenthal plant. In operation since 2009, the test facility for large pumps is one of the biggest and most advanced in the world.

KSB also has the advantage of modern test facilities at its international locations in China and India.

Cutting-edge technologies for nuclear power stations

In a number of countries, power generated by nuclear plants forms an essential part of their energy mix. KSB offers an extensive product portfolio that fulfils the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency.

For example, our RUV reactor coolant pump has been proven to offer the highest efficiency in its product class. Numerous certificates confirm the quality of the RUV’s development and production processes in compliance with a wide range of codes and regulations.

Comprehensive solutions from a single source

As a full-range supplier, we support our customers throughout the technical planning process – from complete new installations through to repairs and modernisation of installed systems, we professionally handle all inspections, component manufacture and installation as well as test runs.

However, it is not always necessary to replace the entire pump or system in order to achieve greater efficiency. KSB also offers a retrofitting option where individual pump components or entire pumps are replaced to optimise efficiency and availability while reducing CO2 emissions.

Through this comprehensive range of services and products, KSB also supports nuclear power plant operators. Our coolant pumps, reactor coolant pumps and safety valves comply with all international regulations and fulfil the strictest of quality requirements.
