Passenger transport

Chair lifts, ropeways and ski lifts are only a few of the systems in which Kissling plays a leading role. In this area where high and uncompromising demands are placed on equipment safety and reliability, Kissling AG has established itself as a market leader with a variety of gearbox series thanks to its experience in the industry, which spans more than 50 years.
Every type of ropeway can now be equipped with a specially developed Kissling product (see Ropeway gear units). Kissling gears are not solely used to complement technologies deployed in ropeways. Systems for amusement parks and gear units for special-purpose vehicles were also developed over the years.

Highest safety requirements
Human lives depend on the perfect functioning of gear units in various types of ropeways. This is precisely why Kissling performs uncompromising quality controls. Our top priority is ensuring the traceability of the material characteristics, ultrasound, hardness and magnetic particle testing as well as detailed dimensional inspections. This quality standard is also applied to products in other application areas.

Chairlifts and ropeways
The most common ropeway systems worldwide are permanently attached, coupling-enabled chairlifts and ropeways. Kissling has developed a standardised range of multi-stage planetary gearboxes for these systems. They include 5 power classes. The largest gear unit currently allows continuous torque of 730,000 Nm.

Fixed-grip ropeways
Bevel helical gearboxes are generally used for aerial ropeway and ropeway applications. It is difficult to define a standard here. In this case, Kissling builds on its proven standard product range. The applicable ropeway standards are taken into consideration during the design process.

Urban transport systems
In recent years, ropeway technology has become increasingly important in urban transport systems. Innovations aimed at reducing the congestion on traffic routes are gaining in importance, in particular, in rapidly growing large cities in emerging countries. Systems fitted with Kissling gear units are currently operating in Medellin (Colombia), Shenzhen (China), Taipei (Taiwan) and New York (USA).

Amusement parks
Various wild roller coasters are equipped with Kissling gear units. These "launch coasters" are accelerated to 240 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. A gear series was developed in-house especially for this purpose. Free fall towers and splash systems fitted with winch and chain running gear are, however, often equipped with Kissling standard gear units. (Amusement park systems)

Special-purpose vehicles
Kissling has also developed various gear units for special-purpose vehicles. Although Kissling is not a specialist for vehicle gearboxes, it has developed several solid designs. For example, the zero series Smart car was fitted with Kissling equipment. In addition, several solar and hybrid racing cars are fitted with special Kissling products. (see Special projects)
