PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

Diaphragm seals
for medium separation

Diaphragm seals are used to separate the pressure medium from the measuring element of the pressure gauge (or pressure switch). This means that pressures can also be measured in hygienic applications and with corrosive or pasty media.

Diaphragm seals are manufactured according to DIN or ANSI standards.

Depending on the model, the following materials of the wetted parts are available for selection:

  • Stainless steel AISI 316
  • Stainless steel AISI 316 mit PTFE coating
  • Monel 400
  • Hastelloy® C276
  • Hastelloy® B2
  • Tantal
  • Icolloy 825
  • Inconel 600

Technical information about diaphragm seals

Diaphragm seals are separators that are connected to a pressure gauge directly or via a capillary line. They allow the measurement of process media when

  • these are too hot for the measuring element of the pressure gauge,
  • in case of direct contact, the wetted parts of the pressure gauge will corrode or be attacked,
  • these are very viscous (tough) or contain sediments,
  • these harden with temperature changes (e.g. adhesives)
  • dead rooms are to be avoided for hygienic reasons (food industry).

Diaphragm seals are also used where the pressure measuring point and the place where the pressure is to be read are remote from each other, e.g. for safety reasons with hazardous media.
