Habasit presents new elastic belts and timing belts at virtual trade fair with focus on material handling

Elastic belts offer several advantages over fabric belts: Both tracking and centering problems are not an issue here. Thanks to the single-layer fabric structure with longitudinal grooves, the belts run extremely true to gauge and even compensate for minor alignment errors of the system. They also have a very non-slip surface and are flexible and pliable. Another major advantage is a much lower bearing and shaft load. Elastic, monolithic conveyor belts are increasingly being used in material handling applications to complement traditional fabric-reinforced belts. Habasit now offers a new semi-elastic fabric design for the material handling industry. With the elastic belts, both infeed and centering problems are no longer an issue. Thanks to the single-layer fabric construction with longitudinal groove structure, the belts run extremely true to track and even compensate for minor alignment errors of the system. Polyester (PET) is used as the traction layer material and on the running side. Ambient temperatures can range from -30 °C to a maximum of 70 °C. The belts also have a very non-slip, highly adhesive and antistatic surface, and are flexible as well as pliable. Thanks to very low belt thicknesses, they are also suitable for small drum diameters. Another major advantage is a significantly low bearing and shaft load. The elastic belts are produced as rolled goods in a width of 3,000 millimeters. Before installation in a line, they are made up to customer specifications, i.e. cut to the desired width and length and end-joined to form an endless loop. The elastic type of material is welded using an adhesive-free joining method (Flexproof end splice), but can alternatively be made endless at the customer’s request, using a mechanical connector.

For a long life with plenty of movement

Another topic of Habasit’s virtual trade show are timing belts of the HabaSYNC® product range, which are designed for particularly high loads and a long service life. Particularly in intralogistics and material handling, there are numerous tasks in which timing belts are subjected to special stresses. These include, for example, the drives of storage and retrieval units, door openers or rolling gates, as well as all linear systems in which bidirectional, precise engagement of the teeth in the pulley is required. Here, high loads with frequent changes of direction and speed are often the cause of premature material fatigue. Habasit engineers have developed HabaSYNC® high-performance timing belts for such requirements, with a specially reinforced steel tension member that significantly increases the belt’s load capacity. Already at a belt width of 25 mm, the reinforced tension member also increases the stiffness of the material compared to standard AT pitches. The selected tooth geometry of the AT belts ensures precise engagement and the best possible performance. It increases precision and power transmission due to the increased tooth contact compared to the T-pitch. As a result, these belts are also ideally suited for heavy-duty applications. To minimize abrasion during operation and thus significantly extend durability and service life in extreme applications, the high-performance timing belts are also available with a polyamide coating.
