In a significant upgrade, Dematic has introduced Multishuttle 2 (MS2), which incorporates advanced engineering, lightweight aluminium construction and a new load extractor for faster operating speeds, higher load capacity and multi-deep storage capabilities.<\/p>\n

Since its introduction, Dematic\u2019s Multishuttle system has revolutionised automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) worldwide.<\/p>\n

Instead of the cranes typically used in ASRS, Multishuttle systems use a fleet of self-propelled \u2018shuttles\u2019 to retrieve and put goods away in an ultra space-efficient storage system, at very high speeds. Lifts at the end of each aisle transfer goods in and out of the system via integrated conveyors.<\/p>\n

In a significant upgrade, Dematic has introduced Multishuttle 2 (MS2), which incorporates advanced engineering, lightweight aluminium construction and a new load extractor for faster operating speeds, higher load capacity and multi-deep storage capabilities.<\/p>\n

The second generation MS2 enables Multishuttle systems to be better tailored to meet each user\u2019s unique product handling requirements. With telescopic arms that automatically adjust to the width of the load to be handled, MS2\u2019s Flex option enables variable load sizes and types of packaging to be handled.<\/p>\n

Dematic\u2019s new load extractor design allows MS2 to store products single, double, or multi-deep, and minimises the space required between stored products, maximising storage density. The flexible system can be configured to handle loads up to 50 kg, in a range of widths from 150-650 mm, lengths from 200-875 mm, and from 50-600 mm high.<\/p>\n

One of the first applications of MS2 was for Swiss Alpine sports outfitter Mammut at its new distribution centre (DC), near Memmingen in Germany.<\/p>\n

A four-aisle MS2 system with 12 storage levels provides a total of 20,000 storage bays in Mammut\u2019s picking warehouse. Each storage level has its own shuttle and each aisle has its own lift, so that put-away and retrieval can be handled simultaneously on different levels, with up to 600 double cycles per aisle per hour. A sequencing tower pre-sorts cartons from the MS2 system and conveys them in the required order assembly sequence to nearby order picking stations.<\/p>\n
