Siemens Energy will supply two gas turbines and two generators to Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corporation from South Korea for the new power plant in Biskra, Algeria. In addition, Siemens will provide spare parts for the components through a long-term parts supply agreement. The plant will be operated by Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Alg\u00e9rienne de Production de l’Electricit\u00e9 (SPE) – a company of the state-owned utility Soci\u00e8t\u00e9 Nationale de l’Electricit\u00e9 et du Gaz (Sonelgaz). Commissioning is scheduled for August 2014.<\/p>\n

The simple cycle power plant Biskra will be constructed in the capital city of Biskra province, North Eastern part of Algeria. It will have an installed capacity of approximately 460 megawatts. Siemens’ scope of supply includes two Model SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two SGen5-1000A generators as well as technical field assistance during the erection and commissioning phase. A 10-year spare parts supply agreement has also been concluded. This is the third order placed with Siemens Energy within the last year for power plant components in Algeria, following the Ras Djinet and Ain Arnat projects.<\/p>\n

“Siemens is playing a major role in the industrialization of Algeria through our continued commitment to providing advanced power products, solutions and services in the country,” explains Thierry Toupin, CEO of Business Unit Gas Turbines and Generators at Siemens’ Energy Sector. “In addition to supplying our advanced turbines and generators for this new plant, the long-term spare parts agreement will provide stringent quality assurance standards to make certain that the parts are manufactured to Siemens’ OEM specifications.”<\/p>\n
