Terminal 2 is being constructed to facilitate the increasing numbers of passengers at the airport (30 million in 2015) and will extend Vanderlande\u2019s involvement following the installation of the baggage handling system in Terminal 1.<\/p>\n<p>The new system will be handed over in time for the FIFA World Cup, which is being staged in Russia in 2018.<br \/>\nDomodedovo Airport is one of Moscow\u2019s three biggest airports alongside Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo.<br \/>\nIt is also one of the largest airports in Russia in terms of passenger and cargo traffic.<\/p>\n<p>The Terminal 2 project aims to improve passenger experience and optimise connection times. It is also expected to attract additional travellers to the site, and secure the airport\u2019s position as a transfer center\u00a0of choice for both APAC and EU passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Terminal 2 will feature a full range of Vanderlande\u2019s innovative technology, including TUBTRAX 2.0 (an individual carrier system) and BAGSTORE (with over 1,000 storage positions). In addition, an improved hold baggage screening system compliant with ECAC 3 will be integrated, as well as check-in positions and carousels. The capacity is expected to be around 5,400 bags per hour.<\/p>\n<p>The new terminal will be linked to the airport\u2019s existing Terminal 1. It has been created\u00a0to minimise the service time per passenger, and will be built in accordance with a multi-level concept. The deadline for handing over the baggage system is 1 March 2018. This was an essential condition owing to Russia\u2019s staging of the FIFA World Cup the same year.<\/p>\n<p>Vanderlande secured the contract because of its longstanding experience in the Russian market, proactive local presence and intensive cooperation with screening suppliers. The company\u2019s business interests in the country date back to 1996, and it has subsequently supplied baggage handling systems to Russia\u2019s four largest airports and other regional sites.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe faced strong competition to secure the contract with Domodedovo,\u201d<\/em> says Vanderlande\u2019s Executive Vice President \u2018Airports\u2019 Andrew Manship. <em>\u201cThe negotiations were lengthy, and we are delighted to be doing business with Domodedovo once again.
