Protecting the climate now means protecting humanity\u2019s future. As a technology leader, Germany could make a real contribution to reversing climate trends. Yet the German Government isn\u2019t going to meet its bold target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions to 40% of 1990 levels by 2020\u2014and its Climate Package is less than is both possible and necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As 2019 draws to a close\u2014the year of Greta Thunberg, Fridays for Future and the just-ended UN Climate Action Summit\u2014EnviTec Biogas AG has published a white paper summarising the current state of play and possible outcomes in relation to climate protection, the transition to sustainable transport and the role of biomethane. \u201cAs an established plant construction business, we aim to play our part in meeting the Herculean challenge of climate protection in the new year and bring a fresh perspective to the debate\u2014at least in Germany,\u201d comments J\u00f6rg Fischer, CFO of the global company that is based in Lohne and Saerbeck, Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sector pioneer and innovator is also looking to shake up its core segment of plant construction. \u201cOur order book for 2020 gives us good reason to be optimistic,\u201d says CEO Olaf von Lehmden, with biogas now definitely back in demand. Plant construction is an early indicator of this, notes von Lehmden in his annual forecast, and the chief executive boss also expects to see a rise or at least continuity in revenue for its Service and In-House Operations units. Von Lehmden: \u201cThis will result in a year-on-year increase in Group EBIT compared to 2019, which we are eagerly anticipating.\u201d Overall, the management team of von Lehmden, J\u00fcrgen Tenbrink (CTO) and J\u00f6rg Fischer agree that the political climate is once again ripe for progress in the biogas industry. Von Lehmden: \u201cFrom the perspective of both macroeconomics and climate, biomethane is now the most cost-effective and climate-neutral fuel available\u2014as recently confirmed by a study from the Fraunhofer Institute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While convincing Berlin\u2019s politicians and secretaries of state of this will not be an easy task, EnviTec\u2019s CEO believes that the company\u2019s white paper provides a wealth of facts and figures on current target attainment\u2014especially in the mobility sector\u2014which, he argues, \u201cspeak for themselves.\u201d A key focus of this backgrounder is making the case for biomethane as a green fuel with unique benefits for tackling climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the biomethane capacities now available plus the biomethane capacities capable of being developed were to be used for sustainable mobility, we could power 18 million mid-range passenger vehicles\u2014that\u2019s over a third of the current volume of cars on German roads,\u201d adds Fischer in conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
