Hyster\u2019s hydrogen fuel cell-powered ReachStacker<\/a>\u00a0 has been recognized by three award programs, further acknowledging the company\u2019s commitment to helping operations decarbonize by transitioning to electric material handling equipment<\/a>. This zero-emission solution is currently undergoing testing and validation at the MSC terminal in Valencia, Spain, one of Europe\u2019s largest container terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industries that have typically relied upon diesel-powered equipment, such as ports, are increasingly seeking electric alternatives that satisfy emissions regulations from governments and ambitious targets companies are setting themselves. This ReachStacker, as well as the award-winning hydrogen fuel cell-powered top-pick container handler<\/a> and recently announced electric terminal tractors<\/a>, are proof positive that Hyster is committed to working closely with customers to develop clean power solutions that provide the productivity that these applications require.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ReachStacker was named one of the year\u2019s best sustainable products by the BIG Sustainability Awards<\/a>. Judged by experts on environmental impact, the US-based programme honours products that are designed to be more eco-friendly than market alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The container handler also won a Green GOOD DESIGN Award in the US<\/a>, identifying it as one of the year\u2019s best sustainable transportation solutions. The programme honours companies and products that are driving progress toward a healthier and more sustainable world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solution is also a finalist for the Global Good Awards<\/a> in the Game Changing Innovation of the Year category, alongside Microsoft and other major companies. The Global Good Awards reward businesses, nongovernmental organisations, charities and social enterprises in the US that are blazing the trail for purpose-driven sustainability and ethical leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hydrogen fuel cell-powered ReachStacker uses\u00a0Nuvera\u00ae<\/a>\u00a0Fuel Cell Engines to convert hydrogen into electricity. The hydrogen is stored on board in high-pressure tanks and can be refilled in 10-15 minutes. The onboard hydrogen fuel cell charges the batteries and powers the electric motors and hydraulic systems, enabling the ReachStacker to lift laden containers with similar performance to a diesel-powered alternative. The pilot programme is supported by the\u00a0H2Ports project.<\/a>\u00a0H2Ports is funded by the\u00a0Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH-JU)<\/a>, coordinated by the\u00a0Fundaci\u00f3n Valenciaport<\/a>, and involves several partners from the port community, industry and academia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
