Normative standards, such as the Cyber Resilience Act, Annex 11 of the EU GMP guidelines, and IEC 62443,\u00a0are tightening the requirements for authentication systems for HMIs\u00a0in pharmaceutical production. Among other things, restrictive user management, access restrictions, and\u2014depending on the risk profile\u2014multi-factor authentication are required. For operating personnel, this means that passwords alone are no longer sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VisuNet GXP and VisuNet FLX series operator workstations\u00a0from Pepperl+Fuchs offer a practical and future-oriented solution for secure authentication directly in the field. Users can\u00a0quickly and clearly log in, using optional integrated RFID readers,for example with their factory or employee ID card. The VisuNet FLX is certified for Zone 2\/22 and Div. 2, while the VisuNet GXP is certified for Zone 1\/21. The technology is based on the RFID20 module from Pepperl+Fuchs, which supports common standards such as Mifare and Legic. In addition, the RFID20 component is\u00a0compatible with leading identification and authentication systems\u00a0such as PM-Logon from Siemens, LogOnPlus from Obion, and the Connected Worker Platform from Nymi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authentication concept can be expanded depending on the application and security requirements. In addition to classic RFID login, a combination with a password or PIN is also possible. This two-factor authentication <\/strong>offers an improved security standard <\/strong>when higher security levels are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multi-factor authentication<\/strong>, which often relies on a combination with biometric identification, goes one step further. For example, the Nymi Band enables biometric identification of the user via fingerprint, ensuring extended and multi-level authentication. This creates a consistent and secure authentication process for GMP-regulated processes with strict requirements for traceability and data integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seamless Integration Into Existing Structures<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With VisuNet HMI systems with integrated RFID readers, <\/strong>RFID logins can be fully integrated into existing product workflows and IT environments. <\/strong>In combination with the VisuNet RM Shell thin client firmware and the VisuNet Control Center management software, central management<\/strong>of<\/strong>all devices is<\/strong>possible<\/strong>. In addition, the devices can be connected to a domain (e.g., Active Directory), allowing user accounts to be managed centrally and access rights to be controlled via group policies\u2014an ideal combination of cybersecurity, ease of use, and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
