Both are ideal suitable for applications in the automotive industry and characterized by a high reliability. They require very little space, surface mount and no power consumption which is especially important in the automotive industry, because more and more advices in a vehicle are powered by a battery to have power supply. The reed sensor send a direct signal to the micro computer. Additionally though the use of Reed Sensors you can reduce components which reduce the power consumption from the battery, because reed sensors need no power consumption in the stand by (Powerless switching). Another good reason for a reed switch is there is no switching noise, the switch is hermetically sealed and the pins could not oxidate &#8211; so it doesn&#8217;t matter if any liquid or dust come into the gearshift box &#8211;
