Proximity Sensors
Inductive proximity sensors are the right technical and commercial solution for the reliable, non-contact detection of metallic objects for range up to 100 mm. Capacitive sensors can be used to detect metal objects as well as nearly all other materials. Magnetic Field Sensors are used for example to detect the position of the pistons in steel cylinders.

Light Grids
Light grids consist of a transmitter and a receiver unit with a parallel array of a large number of infrared through beams. They have a two-dimensional detection field and are used for monitoring large areas. In spite of the simple operating principle, you’ll find an array of specialized light grids in our portfolio: large light beam angles ensure easy alignment, “Teach-in” functions permit fast adjustment, crossed light beams increase the resolution of the light grids, and automatic calibration of the signal strength ensures safe operation even in dirty or dusty areas.

Distance Measurement Devices/Distance sensors

Ultrasonic Sensors
 
Ultrasonic Sensors
Ultrasonic sensors present the ideal solution for non-contact position and distance measurement in all industrial areas where environmental conditions such as dust, smoke or steam may affect the sensors. Objects consisting of a variety of materials can be detected to within millimeters regardless of color or shape.
The ultrasonic sensor produces a data carrier utilizing very high frequencies that are outside the human’s audible range. The time it takes for that ultrasonic wave to pass between the sensor and the object is the value for the distance or the position. Ultrasonic sensors have proven their reliability and precision in many industries, including lumber and furniture, construction materials and equipment, farming equipment and in level control applications.
 
Thru-Beam Sensors
An ultrasonic through-beam sensor consists of a transmitter and a receiver that are installed so they are facing each other.
The working principle of ultrasonic through-beam sensors is based on the transmission of a sound wave from the transmitter to the receiver being interrupted by the object that is being detected.
Direct Detection Sensors
The transmitter and receiver are in the same housing in this type of ultrasonic sensor. A single ultrasonic transducer is switched cyclically between transmit and receive mode. The object itself acts as the sound reflector.
Sensors for Separate Evaluation
Some ultrasonic sensors use a separate panel mount controller for as an interface between the transducer elements and the user system. These remote DIN mount devices are used to power, trigger and evaluate the return feedback signals from up to four remote transducers.
Double Sheet Sensors
Double-sheet monitoring is a special application for which through-beam sensors are ideally designed. In this application originating in the printing industry, an ultrasonic through-beam sensor measures paper or sheet thickness.

Absolute Rotary Encoder
Absolute rotary encoders provide a distinctly coded numerical value for each shaft position. In positioning tasks in particular, the absolute encoders relieve the controller of computation tasks and keep costs down by eliminating the need for additional input components.

Flexible standard for fieldbus communication: The actuator sensor interface (AS-Interface) with special yellow flat cable supplies power to the sensors and actuators as well as allowing you to transfer data to a maximum of 62 nodes per AS-Interface network. The installation time and costs are much lower compared to conventional wiring technology.
The AS-Interface transfers data reliably, is extremely resistant to electromagnetic interference, has a diagnostic function and can detect faults such as short circuits. Retrofitting the AS-Interface is extremely simple.
