Proximity Sensors
Inductive proximity sensors are the right technical
and commercial solution for the reliable, non-contact detection of metallic
objects for range up to 100 mm. Capacitive sensors can be used to detect
metal objects as well as nearly all other materials. Magnetic Field Sensors
are used for example to detect the position of the pistons in steel
cylinders.

Light Grids
Light grids consist of a transmitter and a receiver unit
with a parallel array of a large number of infrared through beams. They have
a two-dimensional detection field and are used for monitoring large areas.
In spite of the simple operating principle, you’ll find an array of
specialized light grids in our portfolio: large light beam angles ensure
easy alignment, “Teach-in” functions permit fast adjustment, crossed light
beams increase the resolution of the light grids, and automatic calibration
of the signal strength ensures safe operation even in dirty or dusty areas.
Optical Data Couplers
For years, Pepperl+Fuchs with the brand Visolux has been
one of the leading manufacturers of optical data communication systems and
has offered a complete, state-of-the-art product portfolio with numerous
options used around the world. Optical data transmission systems allow
bi-directional communication for storage and retrieval systems, transfer
cars, automated guided vehicles, and monorail conveyors. They replace
complex and problematic cables, slip rings, and other transmission methods.
Distance Measurement Devices/Distance sensors
A wide variety of processes have been used to address
different types of distance sensing applications. Pepperl+Fuchs now - in
contrast to our competitors – offers a complete sensor family based entirely
on the superior Pulse Ranging Technology (PRT). Customers will no longer
have to rely on the phase correlation method or other similar chip-based
processes. The advantages of such processes - moderate costs and acceptable
levels of accuracy- have now been replaced by PRT.
Safety Sensors
In order to achieve the required level of safety when
people or parts of their bodies approach a hazard, non-contact protective
systems are the first choice. Photoelectric sensors are used to fulfill
protective measures, especially when the freedom of movement cannot be
limited by other types of protection.

Ultrasonic Sensors
Ultrasonic sensors present the ideal solution for
non-contact position and distance measurement in all industrial areas where
environmental conditions such as dust, smoke or steam may affect the
sensors. Objects consisting of a variety of materials can be detected to
within millimeters regardless of color or shape.
The ultrasonic sensor produces a data carrier utilizing very high
frequencies that are outside the human’s audible range. The time it takes
for that ultrasonic wave to pass between the sensor and the object is the
value for the distance or the position. Ultrasonic sensors have proven their
reliability and precision in many industries, including lumber and
furniture, construction materials and equipment, farming equipment and in
level control applications.
Thru-Beam Sensors
An ultrasonic through-beam sensor consists of a
transmitter and a receiver that are installed so they are facing each other.
The working principle of ultrasonic through-beam sensors is based on the
transmission of a sound wave from the transmitter to the receiver being
interrupted by the object that is being detected.
Direct Detection Sensors
The transmitter and receiver are in the same housing in
this type of ultrasonic sensor. A single ultrasonic transducer is switched
cyclically between transmit and receive mode. The object itself acts as the
sound reflector.
Sensors for Separate Evaluation
Some ultrasonic sensors use a separate panel mount
controller for as an interface between the transducer elements and the user
system. These remote DIN mount devices are used to power, trigger and
evaluate the return feedback signals from up to four remote transducers.
Double Sheet Sensors
Double-sheet monitoring is a special application for
which through-beam sensors are ideally designed. In this application
originating in the printing industry, an ultrasonic through-beam sensor
measures paper or sheet thickness.

Industrial Vision
Image processing is one of the most crucial and
challenging sensor technologies of the future. Until recently, integrating
vision sensors into practical applications was difficult and extremely
expensive. Today, vision sensors can be implemented in a wide variety of
industries and applications, offering cost advantages over standard
solutions in difficult sensing environments.
The available devices and systems range from barcode imagers to vision
sensors and system solutions that are adapted to the application
requirements. Pepperl+Fuchs vision sensors bridge the gap between standard
photoelectric sensors and costly machine vision systems with a more powerful
and flexible solution.

Rotary Encoders
Rotary encoders can be used in all applications that
require monitoring rotation rate, speed, acceleration and direction. These
sensors can be utilized in many applications found in mechanical
engineering, the conveyor industry, material handling and the packaging
industry. You are certain to find a suitable rotary encoder for your
application from our broad product offering.
In automation, rotary encoders are used as sensors for angle, position,
speed and acceleration. Linear motion can also be measured through the use
of spindles, gear racks, measuring wheels or cable pulls.
Rotary encoders convert a mechanical input into electrical signals, which
can be processed by counters, tachometers, programmable logic controllers
and industrial PCs.
Absolute Rotary Encoder
Absolute rotary encoders provide a distinctly coded
numerical value for each shaft position. In positioning tasks in particular,
the absolute encoders relieve the controller of computation tasks and keep
costs down by eliminating the need for additional input components.
Incremental Rotary Encoders
Incremental rotary encoders supply a certain number of
pulses for each shaft revolution. Speed is measured by counting the pulses
for a period of time. To calculate angle or the distance covered, pulses are
counted starting from a reference point.
Cable Pulls
Cable pulls enable a rotary encoder to measure linear
motion by providing a cable that is pulled in a straight line by the
application.

optical concept of Pulse Ranging Technology (PRT). With modern PRT,
distances to 300 m with accuracies of 0.1 mm are easily achieved.
Position Encoding System WCS
For positioning over longer travel paths, the position
encoding system WCS excels in systems with curves, switchpoints, inclines,
or declines. With measurement lengths to 327 m, WCS is suitable for position
detection in warehousing, material handling and automated conveyor systems,
crane positioning, elevators, and much more...
Data Matrix Positioning System PCV
The Data Matrix Positioning System uses Data Matrix
codes, which are arranged side by side on a code reel as an information
carrier. The reading head, based on modern camera technology, captures these
two-dimensional codes and evaluates the exact position in X- and Y
directions - up to 10,000 meters.
