Machine tool probes and software
Probing eliminates the need for
expensive fixtures and manual setting
with dial indicators. Probes are spindlemounted
on machining centres and turret-mounted on lathes, providing the following benefits:

Styli for touch probes
When measuring with a touch-trigger
probe, the machine uses the stylus to take
the data points on the surface of the work piece.

Each touch generates a point that is defined using coordinate values in X, Y and Z. Feature, size, form and position can then be computed from these points.

By contrast a scanning probe takes continuous readings along the surface of a work piece. Sophisticated software uses this data to compute the size, position and form of features on the component.

Magnetic encoders
To meet the increasing demand for reliable, low cost, rotary and linear encoding Renishaw works closely with our associate company RLS d.o.o., to produce a range of robust magnetic linear encoders, magnetic ring encoders and magnetic rotary encoders.

Designed for use in harsh environments, such as industrial automation and assembly systems, metalworking, stone-cutting, sawing, textiles, plastics processing, woodworking, packaging and electronic chip/board production, these high-speed magnetic encoders complement Renishaw's extensive range of optical angle encoder and optical linear encoder products.
Optical incremental linear encoders
Renishaw's optical linear encoders provide zero mechanical hysteresis and excellent metrology. The patented filtering optics withstand a variety of contaminants such as dirt, dust and scratches ensuring customers' machines fitted with Renishaw's linear encoders run reliably with little or no maintenance.

All linear encoder optical readhead and interface combinations feature a integral set-up LED which speeds installation and removes the need for complex set-up equipment or oscilloscopes. Scale is available in many lengths with self-adhesive backing, removing the need for drilling and tapping, saving time and money.
Laser interferometer encoders
Renishaw's HS10 long range laser encoder has been in use since 1994 for axis measurement up to 60 m. The range was expanded in 2001 to include the RLE laser encoder series, using a unique and patented "remote" laser source and optical fibre linked head. The system has seen regular updates and the addition of optional laser sources, interferometer configurations and real-time quadrature compensation, as well as various signal interfaces.

The RLE system is used by many global manufacturers of semiconductor process machinery as well as numerous other short range applications (less than 4 m) where its features and capabilities delivers the advantages of interferometry where they were previously not practicable.
 
Optical absolute linear and rotary encoders
A ground-breaking true absolute encoder system available in linear and rotary formats.

Non-contact, fine pitch performance. 1 nm resolution with 100 m/s maximum speed.

Built-in position checking algorithm. Unique single-track scale with wide set-up tolerances and excellent dirt immunity.
Optical incremental rotary (angle) encoders
Designed for demanding rotary applications that need long-term reliability and high dynamic performance, the RESR, RESM and RESA angle encoders feature high-accuracy graduations marked directly onto a stainless-steel ring. Available in a range of 20 diameters (from Ø52 mm to Ø550 mm) and with custom sizes or even larger diameters available on request, Renishaw's range of absolute and incremental angle encoders have a low cross-section and a large internal diameter to position easily around large internal rotors, payloads or services.

The angle encoder rings also feature a unique taper mount which corrects for eccentricity of the rotor/shaft and ensures excellent accuracy, offering easy and robust fine adjustment of the ring's form and all installation tolerances. In addition, the angle encoder rings offer a very low moment of inertia ensuring that whatever the installation, the system can be positioned with minimal torque and maximum speed.

SEM Raman
The Renishaw structural and chemical analyser (SCA) unites two well-established technologies, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy, resulting in a powerful and unique technique which allows morphological, elemental, chemical, physical, and electronic analysis without moving the sample between instruments.
