The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has enjoyed a premier position in sailing in New Zealand sailing for almost 150 years. The club - and its members have an enormous reputation on the international yachting scene. As the defender of the America's Cup once again in 2003, ensures that The Squadron is right at the centre of the New Zealand sailing. The Squadron's trophy cabinets carry evidence of members' skill and prowess in major regattas both in New Zealand and overseas. The Whitbread Round the world Race, the Admiral's Cup, the Kenwood Cup, theHalf, One and Two Ton Cups, the Sydney to Hobart Race, the Champagne Mumm World Cup have all been won by Squadron teams. In 1995 we were very proud to add the Louis Vuitton Trophy, the Thomas Lipton Cup, the Pell Cup and the America's Cup to our collection thanks to the success of Team New Zealand. On the walls of the Main Hall are half models of some of the most distinguished yachts in NewZealand history. Rainbow, KZ7, NZL 20, Steinlager 2, Fisher & Paykel, NZ Endeavour, Ceramco, Infidel, Shockwave, NZL 32 Black Magic... all of which have flown the Squadron's burgee at the highest level of international competition. Total membership stands at about 2800 and there are some 1000 vessels on the Squadron's register. The Squadron has a busy and varied all year round programme for racers and cruisers alike. It is generally acknowledged that the Squadron's Youth Training Programme is one of the finest in the world.
