Counterbalance AGVs are the most common type of AGVs because they are so versatile. Pick up and delivery can be performed at floor level or to high bay storage stacking, deep lane, and conveyors. Tugger AGVs
- Workhorse AGV for Multi-Trailer Automatic Material Transport
Tugger AGVs have the highest capacity among AGV types for material transport and considerably more when compared to traditional forklift trucks.
Tugger AGV Applications
Typical applications for Tugger AGVs consist of automated loops with stops and longer distance transport.- Automated Loop with Stops: Tugger AGVs operate in an automated loop with predetermined stop locations. Every AGV is assigned a set of consecutive (milk run) stops where operators can add or remove goods and trailers before releasing the vehicle to its next stop. The list of stops can be can be easily changed based on your business. Tugger AGV operation is usually completely automated, but if frequent human interaction is required, they can be designed for manual operation as well.
- Longer Distance Automated Transport: Tugger AGVs are frequently used to transport materials over longer distances within a facility or between different facilities within an industrial site. Automated transport provides a more efficient and cleaner operation.

Narrow Aisle Reach AGVs
- AGVs for Picking Placing Pallets and Containers into High-Bay Racks
Dematic Narrow Aisle Reach automated guided vehicles (AGVs) use support legs that straddle the outside of the load to provide better support for heavier and taller loads like racks, pallets, and rolls and during higher lifting movements.
Because Dematic Narrow Aisle Reach AGVs are fully automated, they reduce product and racking damage that may occur with manual drivers. These AGVs can make tighter turns and transport loads into narrower areas than Counterbalance AGVs.
Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) AGVs
- AGVs for Lifting in Narrow Aisles for High-Density Storage
Our Hybrid VNA AGVs combine a KION-family VNA lift truck with a Dematic automation pack. The KION-family VNA truck is manufactured with all the wiring necessary for the automation pack that, when installed, creates a fully functional AGV that can also be used manually.
Hybrid VNA AGVs are ideal for locations where standard aisle widths are too narrow. Minimal clearance on each side is needed to travel safely in a narrow aisle.
Hybrid VNA AGVs are designed to work in place of manual VNA trucks or fixed cranes in traditional automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RSs). Designed for dense storage of slow moving items, Hybrid VNA AGVs can use existing building racking and operate within existing building ceilings. Often ceiling heights in existing facilities are too low for AS/RSs, which makes Hybrid VNA AGVs the perfect alternative.
Compact AGVs
- Modular, Economical AGV Solution
The Dematic Compact series is an economical AGV solution designed from the ground up to be a smaller, less expensive option to a full-size AGV and a more functional option to Automatic Guided Carts (AGCs). Types of Dematic Compact AGVs
Dematic Compact AGVs are available with several attachment configurations to suit a variety of needs:- Compact Counterbalance Fork: A 2,500 pound (1,130 kilogram) capacity and two fork lengths available. An optional low clearance mast allows it to fit in smaller spaces than a standard AGV.
