What is wind power?
Wind turbines allow us to harness the power of the wind and turn it into energy. When the wind blows, the wind turbine's blades spin clockwise, capturing energy of the wind. This triggers the main shaft of the wind turbine, connected to a gearbox within the nacelle, to spin. The gearbox sends that energy to the generator, converting it to electricity. Wind electricity then travels to a transformer, where voltage levels are adjusted to match with the grid.

Key features from the 1 MW platform
Any onshore wind turbine model from GE’s 1 MW Platform is a three-blade, upwind, horizontal axis wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 82.5 to 103 meters. The wind turbine rotor and nacelle for the 1 MW platform are mounted on top of a tubular steel tower providing hub heights ranging from 65 to 96 meters. The machine uses active yaw control to keep the rotor pointed into the wind. The wind turbine can operate at a variable speed and uses a doubly fed asynchronous generator with a partial power conversion system.
2 MW PLATFORM

OFFSHORE WIND TURBINES
- GROWTH AND POTENTIAL
The offshore wind farm and wind power industry
The offshore wind industry is projected to grow from 17 to 90 GW in the next decade, and offshore wind power is expected to account for 15 percent of the global wind industry going forward.
Recognizing this offshore wind energy potential, GE has invested more than $400 million to develop the most powerful offshore wind turbine—an investment that will also drive down offshore wind farms’ levelized cost of energy (LCOE), helping make offshore wind energy more competitive for our customers. With 12 MW capacity, 220-meter rotor, 107-meter blade, a leading capacity factor of 63%, and digital capabilities, the Haliade-X 12 MW turbine features offshore wind technology that will help our customers find success in an increasingly competitive environment. HALIADE-X 12 MW TURBINE

Key features from the Haliade-X 12 MW offshore wind turbine
The Haliade-X offshore turbine features a 12 MW capacity, 220-meter rotor, a 107-meter blade, and digital capabilities.
The Haliade-X 12 MW is not only the most powerful wind turbine in the world but also features a 63% capacity factor—five to seven points above industry standard. Capacity factor compares how much energy was generated against the maximum that could have been produced at continuous full power operation during a specific period of time. Each incremental point in capacity factor represents around $7 million in revenue for our customers over the life of a windfarm.

Wind Turbine Blades
- The best in wind turbine blade design
Capturing the wind--onshore or offshore, at all speeds, all around the world--calls for wind turbine blade reliability. And reliability comes from experience.
LM Wind Power’s technology plays a central role in the creation of each wind turbine blade type. Factors such as wind turbine blade materials, aerodynamics, blade profile and structure define the performance and reliability of the LM Wind Power blade, and these turbine blade design factors all require an extremely high degree of precision. As wind farm blade specialists, we know what it takes to create quality wind turbine blades that boost performance while minimizing loads on the turbine.
Proven wind turbine blade designs, efficient wind power
LM Wind Power began producing wind turbine blades in 1978, and although the basic blade design hasn’t changed, we have continued working on developing the world’s longest wind blades. Finding the perfect balance between wind turbine blade design and aerodynamics presents the greatest design challenge for each wind turbine blade length.
Aerodynamic properties are crucial in determining how well a wind turbine blade can extract energy from the wind and efficiently produce wind power. Tried and tested building blocks are the basis for all of our blade development projects. We create new, reliable wind turbine blade designs by developing and testing the best materials for wind turbine blades. We then combine these using our advanced design tools.
With a proven track record of more than 228,000 blades installed since 1978, we know our wind turbine blades will perform under varying conditions of wind, temperature and humidity. In the wind turbine blade manufacturing process, We deliberately test blades to their limits, and we continuously improve our products with the latest, innovative wind turbine blade materials.
Efficient wind turbine blade manufacturing
Our 15 wind turbine blade engineering and manufacturing facilities operate in established and emerging wind markets worldwide. We know what it takes to design and manufacture the most advanced, reliable and high-quality wind turbine blades in the industry, and we design our wind turbine blades to endure the forces of nature for more than 25 years.
As one of the world’s most renowned wind turbine blade manufacturers and suppliers, we know how to reduce the cost of energy--making wind power the right choice.
