CBiS Education Kits - programming with real world
integration
- September 2014 will see the new Computing course being
taught in schools and the abolishment of ICT. This change is only a year
away and in that time schools have been tasked with the job of putting in
place the framework for the new course.
The government has released the aims for the new computing curriculum. All
pupils will have to:
- understand the fundamental principles of computer science
- analyse and solve problems by applying computational techniques, write a
program to solve these problems
- apply technology including new or unfamiliar technology to analytically
solve problems
- be responsible and competent users of information and communication
technology.
How can schools prepare for this upheaval? By ensuring the teachers have
relevant training; and the books, learning aids and equipment are there to
give students the best chance.
We have investigated the changes that schools will have to face and we offer
education kits & facilitate teacher training specifically designed for the
new computing course and the new skills students will have to be competent
in. In order to give schools the most stress-free transition to computing
our kits are designed to be easy to teach with and learn from. What are the education kits?
- The two main kits are the robotic arm and the 4WD remote
control car. These may sound like toys however they are so much more. Giving
pupils robots to program allows an introduction to computing that is focused
on the real world. The robots are not simply aimed at one year group; there
is a range of projects and teaching material applicable to all ages and
aptitudes.
Our new kit, the "Emotiv Education Kit" includes an Emotiv EPOC headset and
a powerful API. This premium kit is our answer to Special Education Needs as
just with the power of thought it can control the other robots or any other
integrated hardware.
Robot Arm Education Kit
- The Robot Arm Kit has been designed to provide an
introduction to programming with real world integration.

Emotiv Education Kit
- Have you ever wanted to move things with your mind?
Introducing the new CBiS Emotiv Education Kit
This premium kit comes with an Emotiv EPOC headset, a revolutionary personal
interface for human computer interaction.
The Emotiv EPOC uses sensors to tune into electrical signals produced by the
brian to detect user thoughts, feelings and expressions and sends them to a
computer.
Students will then be able to write a program to interpret those signals
into commands to control robots using the power of thought.
Our kits work together to combine functionality i.e. use the headset to
drive the car or move the robot arm just by thinking about it.
Additional headsets can be purchased after the inital kit purchase. Initial
kit purchase includes the cost of the Emotiv development API which allows
application development accessing the raw EEG data provided by the headset. The Kit which comes in a robust lockable flight case
contains:
-
- Emotiv Epoc Headset
- USB Receiver for Headset
- EPOC Hydrator Pack
- Bottle of hydration solution
- 1 x Raspberry Pi Model B 512mb Ram
- Raspberry Pi Case
- 8Gb SDHC Compatible Card running Rasbian
- HDMI to VGA Cable
- USB Power Cable
- 4 Port Powered USB Hub For multiple Devices

Resources & Support via Custom Moodle VLE
-
The Educational kits have an optional 12 months subscription to our Moodle
platform for online resources & support. The Moodle is modular and contains
an ever expanding collection of images, videos and examples. We have
included a Computer Science Scheme Of Work (SOW) and some sample lesson
plans for various years from Primary to 6th Form
CPD Training Courses
CPD Training Courses
-
CBiS Education facilitates CPD Courses using staff who have hands on
experience teaching in various levels of ICT & Computing posts at Primary
schools, secondary schools and Colleges
Our Computer Science Courses are provided using our own Robotics Education
Kits designed to be engaging straight out of the box

Teacher / Student Workshops
- CBiS Education use practical ways to engage students
in both primary and secondary education through our student programmed
(Scratch & Python) robotic kits which make the computer science curriculum
more fun and accessible both to teacher and student
We encourage and support the introduction of an after school club and an
Innovation, Engineering & Computer Science enrichment programme using joint
teacher and student workshops.
