      • USB3 Vision is the newest image processing standard introduced at the VISION 2012 in Stuttgart and published in February 2013.

        Why is a USB3 Vision standard important?

        Without standards every manufacturer does their own thing and many advantages customers learned to love with the GigE Vision standard would be lost. Like GigE Vision, USB3 Vision defines
        1. a transport layer, which controls the detection of a device ("Device Detection"),
        2. the configuration ("Register Access"),
        3. the data streaming ("Streaming Data"), and
        4. the handling of events ("Event Handling")
        and establishes the interface to GenICam. GenICam again abstracts the access to the camera features for the user. The features are standardized (name and behavior) by the ”Standard Feature Naming Convention“ (SFNC). Additionally, it is possible to create specific features in addition to the SFNC to differentiate from other vendors ("Quality of Implementation"). In contrast to GigE Vision, this time the mechanics (e.g. lockable cable connectors) are part of the standard which all in all leads to a more robust interface.

        USB3 Vision is defined "on-the-wire" like all important standards. Everybody is familiar with the advantages of "on-the-wire" standards: USB sticks, USB mice or USB hard disks – just plug and play them.

        It will also be easier for producers of image processing libraries. As soon as the software supports USB3 Vision, it can be used with all USB3 Vision compliant cameras. Thus, the proprietary bindings between hardware and software manufacturers will be a thing of the past. For the customers there will be an easy to integrate and wide range of software.

              The compact industrial camera mvBlueFOX3 is now available as a single-board model. Benefit from the new flexibility in combination with USB3 Vision cameras. The single-board model has the same hardware features as the standard version. I.e. large image memory for reliable image transfers, wide range of CMOS sensors, as well as camera-based smart features which reduce the load of the Host system.
        • GigE Vision cameras

        • GigE Vision is an industrial image processing standard first published in 2006. To be compliant to Dual-GigE and 10 GigE interfaces, the standard was upgraded in 2012.

          Why is a GigE Vision standard important?

          Consumer interfaces like USB 2.0 has no standard and for this reason one big disadvantage: Each manufacturer provides its own proprietary driver. As soon as a user decided to work with one specific manufacturer it was difficult to change the manufacturer without any software adaptions. For this reason the image processing GigE Vision was introduced for the Ethernet consumer interface. GigE Vision defines

                MATRIX VISION introduces the new Dual Gigabit Ethernet camera family mvBlueCOUGAR-XD - the smallest in its class. The large, powerful FPGA allows preprocessing steps inside the camera directly to reduce the CPU load of the host system. For the first time, it is possible to use a high-speed-buffer mode which writes images faster in the camera's memory as they are transferred.

          • Smart cameras combines a PC, a frame grabber, an I/O extension board, and a camera in one housing. There are several advantages:

             A smart camera is an optimized system with high performance and low power consumption. For this reason cooling plays a tangential role compared to classic camera/frame grabber/PC solutions. Because of the compact size, smart cameras are suitable for automation tasks as soon as PC systems are oversized. Code reading, position monitoring and position output, for example, are standard tasks of smart cameras.

            The availability of smart cameras is another plus. Product life cycles of more than 10 years are not uncommon and depend on the availability of single components.

                                • Custom developments

                                • In many areas of technology, medicine and biology, image-producing processes are involved which do not make use of optical sensors. Because of them objects can be made visible that are usually not accessible to the human eye or to normal cameras.

                                  Just as the "cameras" are unusual, so too are the time characteristics of the signals and their information content. In order to extract impressive images from these exotic voltage fluctuations, complicated algorithms, partly implemented in software and partly in specially developed hardware need to be applied. MATRIX VISION can offer first-class references in this area.

                                  However, processing "common" video signals is often not possible or meaningful using standard products, because of marginal conditions. Additionally, with the aid of customized lightings it is possible to improve the quality of images significantly. Due to the deliberate concentration of development of components and solutions to the area of digital image processing, MATRIX VISION has built up its know-how over many years to a level which is unique, world-wide, so that we are not afraid of any challenge in our area.
