Compact servo terminal supports One Cable Technology equipped AM8000 motors

‘One Cable Technology’ reduces material and commissioning costs

The servo terminals from the EL7201 series for the Beckhoff EtherCAT I/O system integrate a complete servo amplifier for motors up to 200 W in a standard HD terminal housing. A new advancement in this area, the new EL7201-0010 version supports the ‘One Cable Technology’ (OCT) equipped on the AM8000 servomotor series instead of the traditional resolver interface. OCT combines power and feedback signals in one standard motor cable. Material and commissioning costs can be significantly lowered as a result.

The new servo terminal extends the modular compact drive system even further with more flexible options. In addition to solutions for stepper and DC motors, the servo terminals are also designed for highly dynamic servo positioning tasks thanks to integrated, fast control technology.

This extremely high performance is ensured by the full integration of EtherCAT. Beyond that the user benefits from the further advantages that EtherCAT has to offer, such as short cycle times, low jitter and simple diagnostics. The monitoring of numerous parameters, such as overvoltage and undervoltage, overcurrent, terminal temperature or motor load via the calculation of an I²T model, offers maximum operational reliability.

The OCT variant of the servo terminal supports the direct connection of the new servomotors: AM8121 (0.5 Nm), AM8122 (0.8 Nm) and AM8131 (1.13 Nm). In these motors the power and feedback signals are combined in a standard motor cable according to OCT. In addition to the complete integration of the EL7201-0010 into the control system, the One Cable Technology equipped motors reduce wiring expenditures and keeps commissioning costs to a minimum.

All motors from the AM8000 series feature absolute feedback and an electronic type plate, which can be read automatically by the EL7201-0010. These features enable the user to significantly reduce the engineering time. On the one hand, absolute feedback makes a reference drive unnecessary, while on the other the axes can be commissioned via simple plug & play.

Together with the new servomotors from the AM8100 series, the new EL7201-0010 servo terminal enables a faster, less expensive and more convenient way of integrating servo axes while still offering the highest levels of performance.

The EL7201-0010 servomotor EtherCAT Terminal with integrated absolute value interface offers high servo performance in a very compact design. The fast control technology, based on field-oriented current and PI speed control, supports fast and highly dynamic positioning tasks. The monitoring of numerous parameters, such as overvoltage and undervoltage, overcurrent, terminal temperature or motor load via the calculation of a I²T model, offers maximum operational reliability. EtherCAT, as a high-performance system communication, and CAN-over-EtherCAT (CoE), as the application layer, enable ideal interfacing with PC-based control technology. The latest power semiconductors guarantee minimum power loss and enable feedback into the DC-Link when braking. 16 LEDs indicate status, warning and error messages as well as possibly active limitations.

With the One Cable Technology (OCT) the encoder cable is omitted by transmitting the signals of the encoder digitally via the existing motor cable. The option to read the electronic identification plates of suitable motors from the AM81xx series enables a plug-and-play solution for maximum convenience during commissioning.
