Hörmann receives order to construct an automated format goods warehouse

Hörmann Intralogistics has been commissioned by Dunapack Packaging Straßwalchen, a leading supplier of corrugated cardboard packaging and part of the Prinzhorn Group, as general contractor for the construction of a new two-aisle high-bay warehouse (HBW). The automated format goods warehouse is being built in Straßwalchen (Austria) and is intended to expand the company’s storage capacities and thus significantly improve productivity and flexibility.

The project comprises the turnkey construction of a high-bay warehouse in silo design, including state-of-the-art storage and conveyor technology. The core components include two high-performance two-mast storage and retrieval machines, which ensure an incoming goods capacity of 40 load units per hour and an outgoing goods capacity of 65 load units per hour. The project also includes conveyor technology for corrugated board formats, special rack sprinkler systems and the HiLIS Warehouse Control System, which is responsible for warehouse management and material flow control within the high-bay warehouse. The HiLIS control technology and system visualization modules are also supplied.

The corrugated cardboard stacks to be stored, which weigh up to 3,000 kg and are not strapped, require particularly gentle handling. This is ensured by the driving dynamics of the storage and retrieval machines, which greatly reduce the vibration behavior through RBG-specific driving curves and thus enable safe transport of the sensitive load. In addition, conveyors with wide plastic modular belts ensure gentle transfer of the parcels.

“With this project, we are significantly strengthening our production and logistics infrastructure. Hörmann Intralogistics convinced us with its comprehensive know-how in the corrugated board industry and the overall package of warehouse construction, conveyor technology and software, so that we are able to optimize our productivity, increase our flexibility by decoupling individual processes and significantly increase occupational safety through process optimization,” explains Christoph Ludorff, Operations Manager at Dunapack Packaging Straßwalchen.

For Hörmann Intralogistics, this order is a continuation of the successful cooperation with leading companies in the packaging and corrugated board industry. Arno Lettmair, Sales Engineer at Hörmann Intralogistics, emphasizes: “We are very pleased that Dunapack trusts in our expertise. Together with the HiLIS system, our layout will enable efficient and transparent warehouse management and thus make a decisive contribution to the automation of internal logistics processes.”

The rack steel construction, as well as the roof and wall cladding of the warehouse, will also be realized by Hörmann Intralogistics. Completion and commissioning of the warehouse are planned for the coming year.
