Baumüller exhibited its latest innovations for textile industry at the ITMA Barcelona

The DSD2 series with protection class IP 65 has the advantage of very smooth running properties, optimal start-stop qualities and is virtually free of cogging torque – ideal for textile machines. An additional plus point: The smooth housing surface is not prone to collecting dirt

On June 20 to 26, 2019, the textile industry met at the ITMA in Barcelona to learn about trends and new developments in the textile sector. In hall 8.1 at stand B205, Baumüller, an automation expert for textile machine systems, presented components and services along with current developments for the industry. From project planning and design to commissioning and through maintenance and retrofits, Baumüller supports machine makers and operators over the entire life cycle of machines and systems.

Scalable solutions

In the field of control technology, Baumüller with its HMIs and the Box PC b maXX PCC-04 presents scalable and versatile solutions for all types of textile machines. With the large number of interfaces on the PC and different versions in the HMIs, a flexibly scalable machine design is enabled.

Innovations for the textile industry

Numerous companies from a wide range of fields in the textile sector have been relying on the innovativeness and competency of Baumüller for years. Baumüller also plays an important role as a leader in the development of comprehensive system solutions and high efficiency motor technology. And for good reason: Future-proof and fully electric textile machines must be able to meet ever growing demands for flexibility and functionality. Dynamics and flexibility, with simultaneously improved user friendliness, are the basic conditions for the automation system of Baumüller.

Textile machines perform highly dynamic movements and at a high effective torque. Here servo motors are subjected to heavy use and thus must be well cooled. The water cooling system ensures the correct temperature. It enables the use of a relatively small motor with a high rated capacity. For the machine builder, this means better mechanical properties, lower costs and greater efficiency. An additional advantage is the space-saving installation space.

The permanent magnet synchronous motor DSD2 with protection class IP65 is virtually free of cogging torque, offers the best start-stop qualities and offers very smooth running properties – ideal for textile machines. In addition, the smooth housing surface tends to repel dirt.

Compact housing shape – Decentral drive b maXX 2500

The decentral drive b maXX 2500 with protection class IP65, in which motors and electronics have been combined, impresses with its compact housing shape and is ideally suited for textile applications. As a positioning drive, it allows precise guiding of the needles. It is used, for example, in knitting machines for making lace products such as curtains, underwear, net, etc. The decentralized drive has different connection options, such as plugs, single cables, hybrid cables and cable extension. For maximum flexibility in machine design, the user can also choose from the field bus options EtherCAT, Powerlink and VARAN. The solution also has the advantage of low wiring costs.

Other highlights at the ITMA include the servo converters of the b maXX 3000 and the b maXX 5000 series.

ProSimulation for faster time-to-market

Virtual configuring and testing of automatization systems for the textile industry: The newly developed software ProSimulation provides customers with an easy platform for getting started with the world of simulation quickly. The new tool simplifies the virtual design, optimization and commissioning of machines and systems. The benefits that simulation software offers include saving time and cutting costs during development and commissioning, the optimization of existing machines and systems as well the development of simulation know-how within the company. ProSimulation expands the functional range of the ProDrive operating software, which allows quick and easy commissioning, parameterization and operation of all Baumüller b maXX controllers. ProSimulation rounds out the Baumüller portfolio of Industry 4.0 solutions.

Industry-specific know-how

Together with industry-specific hardware, Baumüller offers comprehensive know-how thanks to its years of experience in the textile industry, as well as numerous library components that make programming individual machine solutions faster and simpler.
