Bluhm: Two new special systems for pharmaceutical and cosmetic labeling

For product labeling of tiny cosmetic products as well as optionally round or square pharmaceutical vials, the labeling provider Bluhm Systeme GmbH from Rheinbreitbach has developed two new special systems.

Labeling tiny cosmetic products and marking them individually

Cosmetic products can be quite tiny. Lip balms, for example, do not offer a great deal of space for product labeling. And handling these small products for optimal alignment during the labeling process can quickly become a challenge.

Bluhm Systeme has developed a special system for labeling and marking the smallest cosmetic products. This Geset 700 labeling system consists of an Alpha HSM label dispenser, a laser marker and corresponding conveyor technology. The system applies pre-printed labels and individual batch identification to up to 150 cylindrical cosmetic products per minute.

Reliable product conveying

In the new Geset 700, the tiny cylindrical products are reliably transported throughout the entire labeling process: A vibratory belt conveys the upright pins to a product turner, which tilts them 90 degrees with the help of a screw. In the lying position, the products are placed on so-called prismatic rollers, which convey them through the system at a fixed distance.

To ensure traceability, the lip balms must be given individual batch information. A laser marker applies this data to the labels before they are dispensed. For security reasons, a camera then immediately validates the print information.

Double check of the labeling result

The dispensing tongue of the label web is located above the prismatic rollers. As soon as the pin and label meet here, the pin is set into a rotating motion so that the label can automatically wrap around the product. The presence and correct position of the labels are then immediately checked so that products that are not correctly marked can be ejected. Perfectly labeled products are finally ejected at right angles to the direction of transport.

Better safe than sorry: labeling pharmaceuticals with triple inspection

Especially for the pharmaceutical industry with its high demands on process reliability and traceability, Bluhm Systeme has developed another variant of the Geset 700 for labeling pharmaceuticals. The Geset 700 labeling system is particularly suitable for fully automatic wrap-around labeling of round and square containers such as jars or vials.

The new Geset 700 variant has three safety controls that use cameras to monitor the neuralgic steps throughout the labeling process: Camera 1 determines the volume of the containers to be labeled in order to transmit the perfect placement of the labels to the labeling technology. If the label orientation is not correct, the product is rejected.

Camera 2 detects faulty labels and ensures that they are not dispensed onto the products but onto a specially developed “empty roll”. To do this, this roll enters the labeling field and pulls the incorrect label “out of circulation”. Camera 3 checks the contents and the readability of the data matrix codes printed on the labels.

Like all Geset 700 systems, this variant can be converted to suit a wide variety of products at the push of a button. If all labeling parameters have been saved in advance, all relevant system parts move fully automatically to their new position when the product is changed.
