Dynamic Fashion Warehouse with hanging garment shuttles by psb

The newly developed Dynamic Fashion Warehouse from psb combines with the new hanging goods shuttle in an optimal way the shuttle system and hanging goods technology. The patented concept has outstanding system properties in terms of performance, storage density, scalability and flexibility and also opens up completely new usage scenarios.

Innovation based on many years of know-how

psb intralogistics, with over six decades of experience in automatic overhead conveyor technology, has established itself as the world market leader for hanging goods stacker cranes. With its extensive system portfolio for solving a wide range of tasks in this area, the company is also the contact partner for unusual requirements, such as hanging storage in automatic bicycle warehouses up to 12-fold deep.
For more than ten years, psb has been manufacturing its own shuttle systems and pursuing a consistent further development of this technology. The 4th generation of the exceptionally flexible shuttles, now in its 4th generation, sets new standards in terms of load size and weight and is also used in the patented Multi Access Warehouse. A special feature of this innovative system solution are the container lifts integrated into the storage aisles for optimum use of the vario.sprinter shuttles. This enables the highest performance values with simple scalability and increased redundancy at the same time.
Based on proven technology and extensive know-how in mechatronics and software, psb Shuttle combines suspended conveyor technology with the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse and its suspended goods shuttles to achieve significant advantages in the automatic storage of suspended goods.

Performance

Comparable to the storage of small parts, this new concept achieves the multiple performance of a single storage and retrieval machine through the use of several hanging goods shuttles. In addition, psb increases the performance through the fast handling of the storage rods or goods carriers with the hanging goods blocks in the warehouse as well as the use of several goods carrier lifts. The innovative solution achieves further performance optimization through separate storage and retrieval at different storage levels. This decoupling results in a simplified and clearly structured material flow to and from the warehouse with independent goods flows.

Storage density

By using hanging goods shuttles, the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse achieves a significantly higher storage density than fully automatic storage with a hanging goods RBG. The goods carriers with a length of up to 1200 mm are stored longitudinally up to three times deep, which is also a significant advantage over the storage and retrieval solution.
Even in the height division, the storage system can be optimally adapted to the needs of the customer and thus the best use of space can be achieved. The division of the channels into each other in the longitudinal direction of the warehouse can also be adapted to the customer’s goods.

Scalability

As in the container area, the psb hanging goods shuttle can also be scaled precisely to changing customer requirements by various measures. Depending on the performance requirements, additional shuttles can be easily integrated into the overall system during operation, thus increasing the output. Additional lifts for transporting the hanging goods to and from the respective storage levels can also be retrofitted in warehouses already in use.
In order to increase capacity, extensions of existing warehouse aisles and additional aisles can also be implemented at any time during operation.

Flexibility

In addition to its simple scalability, the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse convinces with its flexible handling of goods carriers of different lengths. As with lying goods shuttles, smaller goods carriers can be stored up to 6-fold deep and larger units up to 3-fold deep. This significantly increases overall efficiency, as either larger quantities of a single SKU or smaller quantities of several SKUs can be handled, depending on requirements.

Mixing goods carriers and parts removal

The trend in fashion distribution is towards more SKUs, fewer parts per SKU, faster collection changes and a further increase in the share of e-commerce. This development is associated with ever smaller quantities per stock access. With its hanging garment shuttles and the associated high performance values, the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse opens up completely new usage scenarios. For the first time, the economically sensible handling of mixed goods carriers (with a high degree of warehouse utilization) as well as partial removal of hanging garments from blocks is possible. This means that downstream warehouse areas, such as dynamic buffers, can be saved, a noticeably better use of space can be achieved and, ultimately, important cost advantages can be achieved.

Redundancy and handling security

The Dynamic Fashion Warehouse achieves optimum availability of the stored goods through multiple equipping with hanging goods shuttles and goods carrier lifts and the resulting significant increase in redundancy. This is additionally supported by the fact that the goods carriers can be passed from warehouse aisle to warehouse aisle.
Safe handling is a central aspect of the new psb system. The different characteristics of the goods (from the light silk blouse to the heavy winter jacket) and the hangers (metal or plastic hangers in different qualities) had to be taken into account. For this reason, the articles are transferred safely and in a controlled manner to a goods carrier at a central point outside the warehouse. Only these THM are then moved in the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse, which guarantees high process reliability within the storage cube and consequently high availability.

Can also be used for small warehouses

With the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse, warehouse tasks can already be economically automated for small and medium-sized companies. Especially medium-sized customers can, for example, start automating their processes with just one aisle and a small number of shuttles. With growing business success, the warehouse equipment can be flexibly scaled without any disadvantage to profitability.

Proven control system and software

The psb software and control systems make a decisive contribution to the high system availability. They were adopted from the classic container shuttles as well as the hanging goods system technology and adapted to the new requirements of the Dynamic Fashion Warehouse. This resulted in innovative strategies with stable processes and high system availability.

First system implementation for a customer

psb has already won a long-term partner with a large network of fashion stores and e-commerce activities for the first implementation of the innovative Dynamic Fashion Warehouse. This customer, very experienced in automatic handling and storage of hanging garments, was enthusiastic about the new system solution and the associated usage scenarios. The currently planned three aisles with their hanging garment shuttles offer the same storage and retrieval performance as the previous 9 aisles with storage and retrieval machines and hold 1.2 million hanging garments.
