RFID, NFC & Bluetooth in one proximity reader/writer

Elatec RFID Systems, a specialist in developing RFID reader and writer systems, presents the new TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE family of modules, which provides support for what is currently the widest range of common radio identification applications. This has been m ade possible by adding a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) module to the popular Elatec readers that feature a multi-standard RFID and NFC chipset.

In releasing the TWN4 MultiTech series, Elatec RFID Systems aims to allow developers to create extremely versatile products using multi-standard modules. The multi-standard modules mean that during the process of RFID integration it is no longer necessary to consider the kind of technology used by the end customer.
The new TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE series has now made it possible for this aim to be fully obtained. As well as being optimised for over 60 RFID technologies in the 125 kHz, 134.2 kHz and 13.56 MHz frequency ranges, the new chipset also integrates NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). For developers of radio communication apps, this combination opens the door to completely new application scenarios. This means that the problem of the lack of universal NFC capability in smartphones can now be overcome by using BLE as the communication channel. This is particularly relevant in relation to payment terminals, whereby the BLE MAC address also makes it possible to identify the end-device user.

Includes Software Development Kit
BLE is supported by mobile devices with Android 4.3 or higher, iOS or higher and PCs with Windows 8.1 or higher. From Bluetooth version 4.1 and higher, the transmission path is further encrypted using AES128.
At the time of the launch, the read/write module is available as an OEM PCB and as a desktop device. A high-performance Software Development Kit makes it easier to develop apps that are used directly on the reader device. This allows developers to implement their own communication protocols or smart communication solutions for IoT and Industry 4.0 applications. The TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE series has built-in flash memory that can be used as a non-volatile data storage medium. It supports CCID and PC/SC 2.01 and has over five freely programmable GPIOs (General Purpose Inputs/Outputs) as well as two SAM slots for connecting SIO cards. This means RFID technologies such as HID iClass SE/SR/SEOS (CSN and Facility Code/PAC) can also be read.
