The Fimal company based in Slupsk in Poland is one of the leading retailers of building materials and wood products in the north of the country. The company uses OHRA rack systems both in its building supplies market and in its wood market. The racks do not just offer high levels of storage capacity, they also make all the products easy to see for customers.

Fimal runs two markets in Slupsk: In addition to selling materials, the building supplies market also offers tools and machines and materials for interior decoration and a separate area for everything you might need in the garden. In the wood megastore, customers can buy everything they need to build using wood ranging from chipboard, plywood and ceiling planks through furniture accessories up to wood preservatives and paints and varnishes. All the goods are stored in the markets themselves; this means that the rack systems must have as high a storage capacity as possible in the given space. At the same time, customers must be able to view the goods clearly to choose the products that they want to buy.

To do this, Fimal puts its trust in OHRA rack systems: The company that is headquartered in Kerpen, Germany, is Europe’s market-leading specialist supplier of cantilever racks and rack systems for the building materials and timber trade. One of the major reasons why Fimal chose racks made by OHRA was the safety of their construction: All the bearing elements of the pallet and cantilever racks are made of solid-walled, hot-rolled structural steel. This means that the profiles can yield elastically in the case of jolts and maintain their structural properties on a permanent basis. The sturdy structure makes possible high storage heights and heavy loads that result in high storage capacities. For outdoor use as is the case at Fimal, it is possible to mount a roof on the strong pillars.

Apart from this, it is OHRA ‘s cantilever racks in particular that offer a high level of flexibility, since the rack supports are suspended in the pillars in a 100 millimetre grid and are not bolted or welded. This means that it is possible to adjust the arms without using any tools – as a result, the racks can quickly be adjusted to cope with new situations. For example, Fimal has installed a cantilever rack directly by the main entrance to its wood megastore on which the company presents a regularly changing range of outstanding offers. Thanks to the flexible arms. Fimal can quickly adapt the rack to the dimensions of the goods that are on offer at any one time.

Equipping the Fimal markets with OHRA racks was divided into several projects: it started in 2013 and is still being expanded. Each individual project – starting with the production stage at OHRA up to commissioning by Fimal – takes only seven weeks (for the internal warehouse) or eight weeks (for the external area). Today, about 500 pallet bays and cantilever racks with a total length of 400 metres have been installed.
