Galderma optimizes production with automatic storage solution from Kardex Remstar

A fully automatic storage solution from Kardex Remstar significantly reduces throughput times and production errors.

With more than 400 employees, Galderma’s site in the Swedish city of Uppsala is both research center and production facilities. This is where dermatological products such as skin creams and anti-wrinkle agents are produced for aesthetic and corrective treatment. In order to meet all market demands in a segment characterized by constant growth and ever more complex supply chains, Galderma has installed a fully automatic Kardex Remstar buffer storage system upstream of the production process. The aim was to bring about a more flexible and efficient production process and reduce the inventory of end products.

The solution supplied by Kardex Remstar is a fully automatic storage system for semi-finished products. It consists of four Megamat RS vertical carousels, an automatic mobile wagon for storing and retrieving products, Kardex Remstar’s own warehouse management software, and conveying technology. Since standards in relation to quality and traceability are typically very high in the industry, the Kardex solution features a special monitoring and inventory system. The stored goods are traced using RFID technology; the fully automatic system dispenses with the need for manual tasks at the storage unit. The solution means that large batch sizes can be stored in the area where raw materials are located and then retrieved for production as and when needed. This significantly increases the flexibility of the production process. The main features of this automated solution include a high level of safety with no operating errors, shorter throughput times, and complete monitoring of the inventory.
