High performer in the high rack

With immediate effect, the Linde V modular is a new, powerful player in high-bay racking. The truck with a load capacity of 1.2 tonnes plays into the hands of all warehouse operators who want to pick even more effectively on different racking levels. Some of its key assets: gripping heights of up to 14.5 metres, visibility-optimised triplex mast with and without free lift, comfortable driver’s cab and a high level of safety thanks to improved stability, a new type of Linde personnel protection system and special lighting solutions. Another asset: the modular system and the large number of variants and equipment options. Chassis, mast and cab can be perfectly tailored to the specific requirements of the application. Sales will start at the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart at the end of April.

Increasingly, both large and small high-bay warehouses are reaching their capacity limits: “Online retail demands high goods availability and fast delivery,” says Anna Keilbach, Senior Product Manager for narrow aisle trucks and vertical order pickers, citing one of the reasons for the larger inventory. Another is the desire for greater individualisation and the growing number of product designs that goes with it. However, if more storage space is needed – especially in metropolitan areas – many operators prefer to stock up their shelves instead of building new ones due to the high cost of space. “As a result, vertical order pickers with the appropriate working height and performance are needed,” describes the product manager.

Performance makes the difference

The new Linde V modular is designed to meet precisely these requirements. For the first time, the operator can reach gripping heights of up to 14.5 metres from the platform – that’s 2.5 metres more than before. In addition, the new vehicle has a 22 percent higher lifting speed and a 20 percent higher lowering speed – time savings when lifting and lowering the cabin that have a positive impact on productivity. The Triplex mast is available in two versions to suit the different conditions in the warehouse: The mast with free lift is suitable for warehouses with different ceiling heights. Two lateral lifting cylinders instead of one centrally positioned lifting cylinder ensure optimised visibility. With the variant without free lift, it is faster when the mast extends, as there are no pauses at the mast transitions. In addition, the mast visibility is already very good due to the design.

New functions for more safety

Together with the Linde V modular, Linde Material Handling (MH) is launching its own personal protection system (PPS), which will be used in all narrow-aisle trucks from Linde MH in future. The new Linde PPS meets all the requirements of DIN standard 15185-2, which prohibits the simultaneous presence of people and vehicles in narrow aisles and prescribes special protective measures in the event that people and machines are accidentally present at the same time. Equipped with a laser scanner at the front between the load wheels and at the rear on the drive side, the Linde PPS detects people in a protective field of up to nine metres. As soon as a person enters the scanner’s protective field, an alarm sounds and the vehicle comes to a safe stop. Additional warning fields ensure that the speed of the order picker is reduced even before the protective zone is reached, in order to achieve the smoothest possible braking. In the transfer aisle, the Linde V modular can be operated together with other vehicles due to its safety equipment. The warning fields of the laser scanners then also provide support by throttling the travel speed when obstacles appear.

LED strips provide even better visibility of the vehicles. The light strips are located at the front and rear of the lift mast and ensure optimum distribution of light in the close-up range. The strips shine white in the direction of travel and red from behind. Pedestrians and other forklift drivers can thus see from a distance in which direction the forklift is moving.

User-friendliness is a top priority

It’s no secret that picking goods is one of the most physically demanding tasks in the warehouse. The Linde V modular supports the operator with various measures. First and foremost: the large driver’s cab, which allows plenty of freedom of movement. Then there is the soft floor mat, which absorbs vibrations and prevents fatigue. The ergonomic control panel can be mounted on the load or mast side or on both sides. Recently, this choice has also been extended to the positioning of the colour display, which shows the operator all important information. This includes speed, lift height, residual capacity and steering angle as well as other information from optional systems such as Linde warehouse navigation. Optionally available tilt barriers provide the operator with 50 centimetres of additional reach when removing goods from the racking. The auxiliary lift function is also helpful: at the touch of a button, the forks move down by a defined amount so that the operator can conveniently deposit the packs of goods removed from the racking.
