HÖRMANN Intralogistics is pleased to announce the order for a 9-aisle high-bay warehouse for leading automotive supplier Continental at its Novi Sad site in Serbia. The system is designed for flexible storage and picking of digital dashboards on Euro and special oversize pallets and offers approx. 22,000 storage spaces.
Continental opened a development and research center in Novi Sad in 2017 and a megafactory in 2023, which includes production, office and warehouse space on 30,000 m². The Serbian location of the German technology company focuses primarily on innovation and production of cutting-edge technological solutions for display solutions installed by automotive manufacturers worldwide. In this construction phase, warehouse logistics are now being optimized to meet international demand.
The innovative high-bay warehouse will have nine aisles with storage and retrieval machines and pre-zones on two floors and will enable double-deep, size-flexible crosswise storage of different pallets. In addition, storage and retrieval in the high-bay warehouse is carried out by two separate electric floor conveyors. With a capacity of up to 261 storage and retrieval operations per hour, goods can be delivered to customers at a high rate. This ensures efficient, automated and flexible warehousing that meets the requirements of modern automotive production.
The flow of goods is controlled by the HiLIS software developed in-house, which is adapted to the specific requirements of the automotive supplier. All processes in the warehouse are mapped via the HiLIS warehouse control system and displayed in a customer-friendly way using system visualization.
The fully phased general contractor contract includes:
Tamara Fischer, sub-project manager for logistics at Novi Sad Continental, is delighted: “The custom concept from HÖRMANN Intralogistics impressed us with its maximum flexibility and adaptation to the special loading units and the high level of incoming and outgoing goods. The automated storage system is another milestone at the important Novi Sad site.”
Alexander Brenner, Sales Project Manager at HÖRMANN Intralogistics, adds: “We are delighted with the trust that has been placed in us with this major order. The project is a great continuation of our collaboration with Continental and we are proud to be able to make such an important contribution to optimizing the logistics processes at this innovative plant.”
Assembly of the rack steel construction is scheduled to begin in May 2025, with commissioning and SOP scheduled for the end of the second quarter of 2026.
The project once again sets new standards in intralogistics and demonstrates how sophisticated, customized solutions can significantly improve efficiency and performance in the automotive industry.
