The Best in Black: The new igus high-performance plastic iglidur J3B

With iglidur J3, igus offers a lubricant-free and durable tribo polymer in its range for the bearing of swivel and rotary applications. The endurance runner convinces above all with its very low friction coefficients tested. As the yellowish material did not always match the user’s design concept in terms of colour, igus has now further developed the proven tribo-plastic to the black iglidur J3B. But igus always has the right material available for other applications as well. The intuitive iglidur online expert system helps with the selection.

High resistance to dirt, low coefficients of friction and robustness to edge and impact loads: These are the properties that are in demand in many industries. For this purpose, igus 2015 has launched the high-performance plastic iglidur J3 for its plain bearing range on the market. The tribo polymer shows its advantages especially in pivoting and rotational movements. igus has now further developed the “endurance runner” into iglidur J3B (B for black). The new black high-performance plastic adapts optimally to the design, for example of furniture or sports and leisure equipment. “Above all, customers who use our plain bearings with collar wanted to use iglidur J3, but the slightly yellowish material often did not fit into the design of the application. Now we can supply a corresponding durable solution with proven properties”, explains Stefan Loockmann-Rittich, Business Unit Manager iglidur Plain Bearing Technology at igus GmbH. iglidur J3B increases the service life, especially for applications with low and medium loads, and is therefore ideally suited for the bicycle industry: for example in pedals, brake levers or suspensions. iglidur J3 is also used in the mountain bike pedals of Crankbrothers. The American company has been advertising the premium components for years and relies on the lubricant-free and dirt-insensitive plain bearings made of high-performance polymers.

With the motion plastics specialist igus, users can choose from 57 different materials. From the visually appealing iglidur J3B endurance runner to the iglidur X high-temperature specialist. In the search for the right plain bearing, the iglidur online expert system accompanies the user and determines the suitable tribo polymer. The online configurator is very easy to use. The user only has to enter the parameters of his application for design, load, movement and counterpart. The expected service life of all suitable iglidur materials is then displayed, allowing the user to select the material with the best price/performance ratio for his area of application.
