Jungheinrich introduces its new ETV series compact reach trucks

The new reach trucks series 1 consume up to ten per cent less energy compared with their predecessors.

During the summer of 2014 the Hamburg-based company launched new reach trucks: the ETV 110 and ETV 112 trucks consist of particularly compact reach trucks with a load capacity of up to 1,200 kilogrammes and consume up to ten per cent less energy compared with their predecessors. With the introduction of the new model series 1, all Jungheinrich reach trucks now feature the same distinctive design.

Some of the main features of the new reach trucks are their slim outside width of just 1,120 millimetres and their particularly narrow and compact wheeled support arms. Yet, like larger reach trucks, they are still capable of manoeuvring a Euro pallet between their support arms. “This saves a lot of space and is ideal for use in block-stacked storage areas or drive-in racking,” says Joachim Schier, Head of Reach Truck Product Management at Jungheinrich. Their compact size – in combination with the retractable mast technology – means the reach trucks can operate in aisles as narrow as 2,455 mm.

Development Target: Lower Energy Consumption

The development of the new series focused on improving energy efficiency. “Measurements in our field tests have revealed that these trucks run with up to ten per cent lower energy consumption for the same handling turnover – compared with their predecessors,” adds Schier. “This makes the new Jungheinrich reach trucks the most energy-efficient trucks in their competitive class.”

The new ETV 110/112 boasts a newly developed electric steering system, based on the electric steering fitted as standard in the series 2 and 3 Jungheinrich reach trucks. “When travelling straight ahead, the steering wheel spinner knob is always in the optimum ergonomic position, i.e. at 9 o’clock,” explains Joachim Schier. It doesn’t matter whether the steering wheel is moved or even turned 180° when the truck is turned off, says Schier: “The Jungheinrich steering control always returns the knob to the initial, optimum position.”

Comfortable Operation Results in Outstanding Performance

Despite its ultra-compact design, the new reach trucks sport generous cab space plus convenient driver access. Important controls are configured so the driver can operate them without his hand leaving the wheel. Pedal layout is the same as in a passenger car. The comfortable seats have different adjustment options for seat height, back support and accommodating body weight. “Despite the truck’s small dimensions, the driver-friendly cockpit in the ETV 110/112 provides the operator with excellent working conditions,” summarises Joachim Schier. Overall, this is the basis for the outstanding performance achieved day-in, day-out at the workface.

The features include a high-quality driver’s monitor for displaying the main operating data, for example, direction of travel and wheel position. Three separately adjustable drive programs make it easy to customise the ETV 110/112 to suit distinct requirements.

Weight Checking at the Press of a Button

In the new Jungheinrich reach trucks the range of driver assistance systems is now much greater. Drivers benefit from a variety of work enhancements, which in turn improve operational efficiency. For example, the options include a fork-mounted camera and operator monitor. By viewing the special display, the operator can accurately check payload storage and retrieval even at lift heights of more than seven metres.

To avoid exceeding the prescribed residual lifting capacity of the truck, at the push of a button the driver can check the weight of the load, which is then shown directly on his display. According to Joachim Schier, “This, in addition to many standard safety features, makes operating the new trucks even safer.”

Position Control: Quick and Easy Stacking at Pre-set Heights

For the first time Jungheinrich’s proprietary Position Control driver assistance system is optional available in the new series 1 reach trucks. This feature allows the driver to stack and retrieve quickly and easily at pre-set storage heights. The new built-in Snap function goes one step further. Schier again, “By throttling the stroke speed on the control lever, the system automatically moves the forks to the next pre-set racking level. This makes manually cueing the height a thing of the past.” In addition, the new stacking aid helps prevent damage to goods and racking.
