ROTOMAX® load turning devices by VETTER Krantechnik received a very positive reception  in the wind power industry. These agile and proven devices are used for turning rotor blades during the production process as well as for preparing them for dispatch. They are available with capacities from 1 to 200 tonnes.

We recently delivered the device shown, which has a capacity of 20 tonnes, to a German manufacturer of rotor blades. It is amazingly easy to operate: first, the powered ROTOMAX® load turning device is attached to the crane hook of a bridge crane. For the turning process, one PU-coated belt each is looped around the flange and centre section of the rotor blade. The belt near the flange is attached to the powered load turning device and is guided through a specially designed deflection roller which restricts the belt’s angle of twist. The other belt is not powered and runs over a loose roller. The belt lengths required for the goods to be turned are calculated by our engineers and simulated using CAD. Generally speaking, all types of rotor blades of any length can be turned.

The use of two powered load turning devices in tandem operation is also conceivable, however. Which solution is best suited to which application case is decided during individual consultation meetings.

But no matter which of the two variants our customers choose: the advantage is that the rotor blade can be stopped in any position e.g. for reworking to be carried out. The device is controlled by radio remote control, allowing operators to control the turning process of the blade comfortably and keep their eyes on what’s being turned at all times.
