MENZEL: Large slip ring motor quickly customised

Menzel Elektromotoren has customized a 6500 kW slip ring motor for the drive of a cement mill at short notice and delivered it to the customer.

The motor from the MEBSSL series is ideally suited for industrial applications with high starting torques. Menzel has adapted the internal circuit of the motor winding for the 60 Hz mains voltage in the country of use, Canada, and and relocated the terminal box according to customer specifications.

The flexible, on-time custom manufacturing was the decisive factor for placing the order.

In addition, the motor design ensures long-lasting reliable function in the application. The motor series is characterized by high efficiency, high power density, compact design, robust bearings, and high load capacity.

The welded steel housing is designed for maximum torsional rigidity and optimal cooling. The motor with IP55 protection and IC 611 cooling type offers a rated torque of 52076 Nm.

The closed self-cooling system with attached air-to-air heat exchanger
ensures high efficiency and optimum dust protection.

Slip ring motors continue to be the preferred choice of many cement plant operators. In dusty environments, they offer superior performance compared to the of squirrel-cage motors and frequency converters, as they do not require electronics and are therefore much more robust than squirrel-cage motors.

The price difference is also considerable in this power range. Three-phase slip-ring motors, which are started by means of liquid starters offer a cost-effective solution for driving mills, crushers, and for driving mills, crushers and conveyors. They require only small starting currents and provide full torque from standstill.
