The building materials trading group Derrey has equipped its new subsidiary “Gedibois Derrey” in Metz
with OHRA cantilever racks. Thanks to customised special solutions, the racks adapt exactly to the
product range and the structural conditions. In addition to standard cantilever racks, asymmetrical racks
are also used: These are double-sided racks in which the cantilevers on the left and right sides differ in
load-bearing capacity and length. In this way, the wide variety of different types of timber and panels can
be stored efficiently and in a space-saving manner. In addition, some of the racks are located in an open
hall, so that the first uprights of a row of racks could still be exposed to the weather. For this reason,
OHRA has hot-dip galvanised the front uprights of the racks, while the remaining components have been
powder-coated at a lower cost.
The new Gedibois Derrey subsidiary offers commercial and private customers a comprehensive range of
timber products, from construction timber to facade cladding and floor coverings. The new building
includes a modern, 1,000-square-metre showroom and a storage area of around 7,000 square metres.
Gedibois Derrey always has around 2,500 items in stock. The warehouse is located both in a closed
warehouse and in a partially open building, which includes a drive-in area for customers.
The uprights of all the racks are almost 7 metres high and the length of the rows of racks varies between
22.8 and 38 metres. While the standard racks used have a uniform cantilever length of 1,200 millimetres
and load-bearing capacities of 730 or 800 kilograms per cantilever, OHRA has designed two racks
asymmetrically: The first rack has cantilevers that are 1,500 millimetres long on one side and 1,850
millimetres on the other. Accordingly, the upright was not mounted in the centre of the rack base. The
load-bearing capacity on both sides is 700 kilograms per cantilever. For the second rack the load-bearing
capacities of the cantilevers also differ on the respective sides. While they can bear 700 kilograms on one
side with a cantilever length of 1,850 millimetres, the load-bearing capacity on the other rack side is 800
kilograms with a cantilever length of 1,200 millimetres. This has made it possible to create rack solutions
that are precisely tailored to the goods being stored and ensure a high storage capacity with efficient use
of the storage area.
The installation of two racks in the drive-in area of a warehouse that is open on one side was included in
the construction by OHRA: On the one hand, the racks were calculated considering appropriate wind
loads. On the other hand, the front sides of the racks facing the open side were additionally protected
against the effects of the weather by galvanising the first two uprights. This ensures the durability of the
racking system even if the supporting structure is exposed to precipitation.
