Nabtesco’s new cycloidal gears offers greater efficiency in battery production

Nabtesco boosts efficiency in battery production. The company’s cycloidal gears feature high precision, dynamics and rigidity, which enables shorter cycle times, improved product quality and larger quantities.

The success of electromobility depends on battery performance. The battery is the core component of every e-car, but also the most expensive part. The main challenge to manufacturers therefore is boosting cell efficiency especially in combination with process optimisation. This requires innovative technologies and drive concepts that can bring efficiency and productivity in the highly automated segment of battery production to a new level. Cycloidal gears from Nabtesco are the key to boosting efficiency in this segment. Their special design makes them much more precise, dynamic and rigid than conventional worm gears and standard planetary gears. The result: shorter cycle times, higher productivity and lower costs. The time required for single process steps can be reduced by as much as 40 percent.

Power, precision and high speed

Whether the requirement is for fully enclosed gearbox units (gear heads), highly dynamic servo gearboxes or robust rotary indexers: Nabtesco’s broad product spectrum, extensive automation expertise and high level of development competence deliver high performance in virtually every battery production application. Cycloidal gears feature high torque capacity, tremendous shock load resistance (up to five times the rated torque), and minimum backlash throughout the entire life cycle (hysteresis loss < 1 arcmin). The two-stage reduction principle also ensures excellent performance with respect to dynamics and smooth operation, as well as high repeat and path accuracy. The integrated angular ball bearings absorb both axial and radial loads as well as bending moments, for increased torsional rigidity and resistance to impacts and overloads. All gear solutions are developed by Nabtesco in cooperation with the customer and custom tailored to the particular application.
