Linde MH Achieves Platinum Recognition for Sustainability Efforts

The materials handling specialist, Linde Material Handling (MH), has made significant progress in achieving its sustainability goals and has been awarded a Platinum Medal by the rating agency Ecovadis. The certification, conducted at the end of 2023, saw Linde MH receive well above-average scores in all four evaluation categories, placing it in the top one percent of all companies in the ranking. In comparison to the previous assessment, Linde MH improved its “Scorecard” in the “Ethics” and “Sustainable Procurement” categories.

Linde MH’s Strategic Approach to Sustainability Recognized

Ulrike Just, Executive Vice President Sales & Service Linde MH EMEA, emphasizes that sustainability is a strategic focus at Linde Material Handling, systematically pursued and continuously improved over the years. The Platinum rating acknowledges and appreciates this ongoing commitment, placing Linde MH among the select few in the international elite.

“We are pleased with this highest accolade and consider it a motivation to further enhance our efforts in the coming year,” says the Linde MH manager. The Ecovadis ranking has established an internationally uniform standard for sustainability, providing guidance in the business world and eliminating many reporting lines. The Platinum award serves as a testament to Linde MH being a supplier and partner committed to comprehensive sustainability.

Linde MH’s Eco-Friendly Products and Solutions

Ulrike Just asserts that Linde’s product portfolio signifies efficient energy usage, low emissions, and comprehensive workplace safety while delivering top-notch performance. To assess the environmental impact of forklifts and storage equipment throughout their product life cycles, ecological balances were created using a scientific, TÜV-certified methodology. Linde MH contributes to resource conservation through its used forklift business, where returned units from leasing and rental activities undergo standardized refurbishment for a second life. Environmentally responsible recycling of lithium-ion batteries has been ensured through a strategic business partnership established last year.

Ecovadis Certification Process and Linde MH’s Contribution

Ecovadis, founded in Paris in 2007, is a globally operating rating agency that assesses companies’ sustainability efforts in four categories: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Linde MH’s audit results indicated an “advanced” level in the CO2 Scorecard for carbon management, the second-highest classification. Ulrike Just explains that data for Ecovadis’ audit is sourced from all relevant departments at Linde MH, including safety, environmental management, procurement, HR, and production.

“The systematic screening and involvement of many individuals within the organization are crucial components for ongoing improvements,” notes Ulrike Just, the brand manager for Linde. The Ecovadis certification relies on Linde MH’s sustainability report, first published in 2015 and now available as an online report for 2022 on the company’s website. The report outlines the current status in key areas, setting future target values for sustainability strategy and management, corporate governance, environmental protection, products and solutions, being a good employer, and societal engagement.

Expanding Ecovadis Network and Certification Goals

Ecovadis’ network now encompasses over 125,000 assessed companies, aiming to promote innovation and advance sustainability. Evaluation criteria align with ISO 26000 and various global reporting standards, contributing to the overarching goal of fostering sustainable business practices.
