Efficient order picking at medium shelf height

With the Linde V modular B vertical order picker, Linde Material Handling (MH) is launching a new, high-performance and robust high-rack truck. With the man-up unit, the goods handling specialist is expanding its product range for wide and narrow aisle warehouses and offering operators of goods distribution centres or manufacturing companies an even greater choice of customised solutions.

Many warehouse operators solve the need for additional storage space by adding more racking and extending upwards by one or two levels. As a result, the demands on the vehicles used are growing in parallel: the required gripping heights are over seven metres, which requires a stable chassis as well as an ergonomic and safe working environment so that the operators can fully concentrate on the picking process. “Picking is the value-adding activity in the warehouse and thus the core business,” Matthias Holzwarth, Product Manager VNA equipment, sums it up. “With the new Linde V modular B high-bay stacker, we offer our customers a powerful and at the same time cost-effective solution for precisely these requirements.” With a load capacity of 1,000 kilograms and a reach height of up to 7.83 metres, the trucks meet customer needs such as those found in online retailing, small parts logistics in distribution centres or in factory supermarkets. At their core, they are based on the series of the big brother V modular, whereby the “B” in the model designation, “Best Value”, expresses that only necessary equipment features for this grab height have been integrated.

Convincing set-up for performance, ergonomics and safety

The maximum driving speed of 11 km/h ensures fast progress. Comfort is provided by the spacious vibration-damped cab, which is decoupled from the chassis. A soft mat absorbs vibrations when driving with the mast raised, while the driver finds a secure foothold on the firm ground at the edge of the cab floor when picking. The low parapet of the operator’s cab allows easy, safe gripping of goods from the racking, and for those extra centimetres of freedom of movement into the racking that are so often needed, there is the optional outward tilt function. The mast design allows excellent visibility into the warehouse environment, and thanks to the electric steering, the unit is easy and precise to manoeuvre. Due to the modular vehicle concept, the vertical order pickers can be individually adapted to different customer requirements. Depending on the power requirements, for example, a 24-volt and a 48-volt motor are available.

With various features, the Linde V modular B ensures safety. For safety reasons, the truck can only be moved when the driver touches the sensors on the control unit with both hands and stands with his feet on the dead man’s switch. Above a height of 1.2 metres, the driver’s platform only moves when the electrically monitored side barriers are closed. To prevent collisions with ceilings and walls, travel speeds and lift heights can be individually adjusted to local conditions by the service technician. For narrow aisle applications, a scanner is available in the drive and load direction to detect persons and obstacles. In an emergency, the personnel protection system actively intervenes in the travel mode and thus prevents collisions.
