Compared with ISO 18000-3 Mode 1 transponders (based on ISO 15693 Vicinity Cards), ISO 18000-3 Mode 3 transponders (HF Gen 2) have a significant advantage: their anti-collision speed is much higher.

Static and dynamic RFID applications
Following „static“ and „dynamic“ applications can be distinguished. Static applications are those in which transponders are placed in a RFID reading area and remain there unmoved until the identification by the reader. This is the case for casino applications or document tracking. The items are placed, mostly close together in an antenna field (roulette table or filing tray) and then identified. On the other hand there are dynamic applications. Here the tagged items are moved with more or less high speed through an antenna field which is defined by two or more antennas (tunnel). This is the case especially for production- and inventoty processes when the goods are moved by conveyor belts.

High anti-collision speed accelerates processes
Higher anti – collision speed leads to faster processes in both variants mentioned above. In static processes a significantly higher number of tags can be identified in the field. To stay with the two examples de scribed above: this saves time in the casino and also capacities in the example of document tracking. Finally more tags can be read in the field and so more files can be identified with the same number of reading points.

10 times faster reading results in tunnel applications
FEIG ELECTRONIC made extensive tests with tunnel applications in connection with the HF Long Range Reader ID ISC.LR2500 – A and determined 10 times faster reading results by using HF Gen 2 tags instead of conventional ISO 15693 transponders . For these tests 70 pharmaceutical products were tagged and stored in a transport container . This container was moved through a tunnel existing of three RF ID antennas. Tagged with ISO 15693 transponders these 70 products were identified completely within 7 seconds. Equipped with HF Gen 2 tags identification time was only 700 ms!

Outstanding RF power of FEIG ELECTRONICs Long R ange Reader
S
uch an exceptionally fast read rate is of course not only the result of the used transponders. For such a result also a powerful and fast RFID reader with high RF power and excellent multiplexing features is mandatory. The HF Long Range Reader ID ISC.LR25 00 – A from FEIG ELECTRONIC with integrated Linux operating system (64 MB RAM, 256 MB Flash) is the optimal device for tunnel applications , unfolding the very high anti – collision speed of HF Gen 2 tags.
