FIPA GmbH has expanded its product range with new flat, bellows, and oval vacuum grippers made from conductive silicone or NBR. These electrically conductive materials in the body and sealing lip protect against electrostatic discharges (ESD), which can cause irreversible damage to electronic components and assemblies. ESD is particularly common in semiconductor-based components and is a leading cause of failures.
ESD-protected handling is essential in many high-tech industries, including the automotive industry, electronic component manufacturers, PCB assembly, semiconductor factory automation, and machine and control cabinet construction. Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) providers also rely on protecting sensitive components from electrostatic discharge to prevent malfunctions or failures and ensure the highest product quality. “We are pleased that our customers can now ensure safe handling of sensitive electronic components,” says Oliver Richter, Product Manager at FIPA.
The antistatic vacuum grippers from FIPA are made from high-resistance conductive silicone or NBR, which control and safely dissipate electrostatic charges, preventing sudden electrical discharges between objects. FIPA offers grippers in various shapes. Flat grippers (available from Ø 0.7 to 15 mm) ensure precise positioning for quick cycle times and high repeatability. Bellows grippers with 1.5 folds (available from Ø 6 to 16.5 mm) compensate for height and angle differences, making them suitable for gentle placement on components and curved surfaces. The slim design of oval grippers (available from 4 x 2 to 30 x 8 mm) provides maximum holding power with minimal space and is ideal for narrow components or limited contact areas. The antistatic vacuum grippers are suitable for handling PCBs, electronic components, sensitive components in electromobility, plastic parts, and the assembly of sensors and control units. They are also appropriate for handling display glass and battery components. More information can be found in the FIPA catalog “Antistatic Vacuum Grippers.”
