Rufus-640-Analog easily adapts to difficult day and night lighting conditions

Equipped with on-board integrated image processing algorithms, Rufus-640-Analog adapts itself to difficult day and night lighting conditions, as well as difficult atmospheric situations to deliver the best possible images at all times. At SPIE.DSS 2014 Xenics exhibits in Booth 1025.

Xenics is right on target for the rapidly expanding public and government security applications with its newly released Rufus-640-Analog SWIR camera. The camera is perfectly adapted for active and passive nightvision, UAV (defense, surveillance and fire-fighting), as well as homeland security and SAR (search and rescue). The Xenics Rufus-640-Analog is a very compact SWIR camera incorporating the XSW-640 OEM core based on a highly efficient InGaAs sensor for the 900 to 1.700 nm wavelength realm. As option, the sensitivity can be extended down tothe VisNIR range of 400 nm.

Among the most important features of the newly developed Xenics Rufus-640 SWIR camera is a set of embedded proprietary algorithms resulting in superior situational awareness during bright daylight or moonless nights and despite fog, haze or high humidity. Depending on the light conditions, the algorithm will determine the best image optimisation by using either automatic exposure time control or automatic gain mode with a fixed integration time. The Rufus-640 SWIR camera also performs on-board image correction with TrueNUC for high gain and low gain, histogram stretching and trigger in/out. As a result these embedded algorithms provide the best image quality to the given application. This alleviates system designers of the time consuming task of developing their own software-based specs to obtain good image quality.

In its targeted field of critical security applications Rufus-640-Analog offers an advanced set of specs in terms of high resolution, wide dynamic range, low noise and other performance features – pixel pitch: 20µm, array format: 640×512, SWIR sensor quantum efficiency: 80%, dark current: 0.8 x 10^6 e^-/s, all stabilized by its built-in thermo-electric (TE1) cooling. The Rufus-640-Analog is compact and lightweight, low-power consuming and ruggedized build with industrial components for a broad operating case temperature range of -40 to +70 °C.

The camera is equipped with an analog video output, eitherPAL or NTSC. Other SWIR cameras with digital interface are available as well. Rufus-640-Analog can easily be combined with Xenics’ thermal imaging camera “Raven” for unparalleled detection enhancements and identification capabilities.

As part of the Rufus camera concept, the built-in short-wave module XSW-640 is a member of the XenicsCores product family of high-resolution infrared OEM modules. Due to their easy integration via the universal QTE interface, these modules shorten time-to-market in user designs.

“The emerging security market is very important to us,” says Xenics founder and CEO Bob Grietens. “SWIR imagers, as compared to their LWIR counterparts, can penetrate fog, haze or humidity and are well suited for camouflage detection, long range identification, detection of specific lasers or other markers.”
