Siemens launches communications-enabled flush-mount sensors

The Siemens Building Technologies Division has added KNX-compliant flush-mount models to its Symaro sensor line. In addition to capturing the temperature, humidity and air quality, these new communications-enabled sensors can also control these parameters as well as switch lights on and off and control sun protection systems. The devices support a wide variety of configuration options and can be customized to each specific application.

Siemens has added communications-enabled flush-mount sensors to its Symaro sensor line. These new room sensors capture the temperature, relative humidity or air quality (CO2) in a room. Siemens also offers a multisensor capable of measuring all of these parameters simultaneously. All models support the connection of an additional passive temperature sensor which measures a second temperature (e.g. floor or ceiling temperature). In addition, the devices have two binary inputs and are able to capture the states of two dry contacts. The measurements (up to four) and the two states are transferred via the shared KNX interface to other components of the building automation system.

The new flush-mount sensors use the KNX S and LTE modes to communicate with the Siemens Synco and Gamma building automation systems and the KNX S mode to communicate with third-party systems. Using their built-in control functions for room temperature, humidity and air quality, these communications-enabled devices are capable of addressing suitable actuators to control heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. The two binary inputs can be used to monitor devices such as window contacts. In conjunction with suitable actuators, the sensors can also switch lights on and off or control sun protection systems.

The new Symaro flush-mount sensors are particularly compact and can be installed in all types of commercially available recessed conduit boxes worldwide. In combination with the variety of colors and shapes of the Delta product range they fit in every room harmonically. The front modules of the new sensors have anti-theft protection but no operating controls; this makes them highly suitable for public buildings such as museums, theaters, trade show and exhibition halls or schools. Other applications include rooms with varying occupancy, including sales areas, hospitals, retirement homes or offices. The sensors’ front plate has an integrated LED display which uses three colors to signal the current air quality in the room, thus indicating when it is time to air out the room.
