Drive belts from the ContiTech Power Transmission Group have been used for decades in the automotive industry as well as in machinery and plant engineering all over the world. Manufacturers of two-wheelers also use ContiTech belts. In motor scooters, motorcycles, bicycles, and e-bikes, the company’s high-tech products help transport people safely and sustainably.

Cars and commercial vehicles used for personal transportation are getting more environmentally friendly all the time – thanks, too, to ContiTech belts in the timing assembly and auxiliary unit drive. To improve traffic flow, plan-ners are increasingly relying on motor scooters, e-bikes, and conventional bicycles. “Our drive solutions made from rubber and plastic ensure that forces are transmitted reliably, comfortably, and efficiently, with minimal environmental impact. Our customers benefit from a broad and customized offering that fulfills the diverse requirements of industrial applications,” says Rolf Marwede, head of the Polyurethane Belt segment in the ContiTech Power Transmission Group.

In Asia, motor scooters are a regular feature on the roads. Their size and maneuverability make them much better at negotiating heavy traffic. Motor scooters are often equipped with a variomatic transmission: When the driver accelerates, the transmission ratio changes in a continuously variable manner. ContiTech supplies special wide V-belts for the replacement mar-ket – the CONTI-V® SCOOTER XT – that deliver outstanding durability and longitudinal stability.

Heavy-duty rubber and plastic timing belts for motorcycles also ensure reli-able transfer of power from the transmission to the rear wheel. The narrow belts prove especially reliable in tight spaces. They can withstand high forces and offer extremely high tensile strength. For this kind of application, ContiTech supplies tensile members made of highly stressable glass cord or aramid. At the Hanover Messe, ContiTech will be premiering its heavy-duty timing belt with carbon tensile member. CONTI® SYNCHROFORCE EXTREME CARBON and CONTI® SYNCHROCHAIN CARBON can with-stand extreme tensile loads.

For bicycles with electric motors, the most important thing is being able to cover long distances easily, in an eco-friendly way, and without getting stuck in traffic jams. At its trade show booth, ContiTech will be presenting an innovative drive system with timing belts for bicycles, pedelecs, and e-bikes. The benefits of timing belts over chains are obvious: They are oil-free, maintenance-free, offer outstanding durability, and do not have to be retensioned.
