5 reasons why you should mill grey cast iron with pCBN tools instead of carbide tools

Greater hardness and wear resistance:
pCBN tools offer significantly higher hardness and wear resistance compared to carbide tools. This means longer tool life and fewer tool changes.

Better surface quality: 
The lower wear and higher precision of pCBN tools results in better surface quality. This is particularly important when machining drawing-relevant areas in order to achieve a smooth and even surface. 

Higher cutting speeds: 
Significantly higher cutting speeds can be achieved with CBN tools, which shortens the machining time and increases productivity. Up to 2,500 m/min are possible here.

Heat resistance: 
pCBN tools are more heat-resistant than carbide tools. They can work at higher temperatures (up to 1,400 C°) without losing their hardness. This is particularly advantageous when machining grey cast iron, as we are working with significantly higher cutting values.

Reduced tooling costs: 
Despite the higher acquisition costs of pCBN tools, the longer tool life and higher productivity lead to a reduction in overall costs. Fewer tools are required and machine running times are optimised.
