Modern landing gear operates smoothly, precisely, and with perfect timing—just like an eagle about to land. At EMO 2025, Starrag showcased a fully assembled Airbus A350 nose landing gear, highlighting a 20‑year partnership with Liebherr-Aerospace and demonstrating excellence in safety-critical aviation components.
The collaboration began in 2004 in Lindenberg, Bavaria, with the purchase of a single Droop+Rein FOGS M40. This machine’s stability, precision, and flexibility laid the foundation for one of the most productive partnerships in landing gear production. Over two decades, Starrag and Liebherr have developed processes considered global benchmarks for reliability and precision.
Landing gear absorbs high impact forces during taxiing and touchdown, functioning under all climatic conditions. The A350‑1000 nose landing gear was redesigned with a take-off weight of 308 tons. By 2022, nine additional Droop+Rein machines were installed across Europe and Asia, establishing a globally standardized production network, combining Starrag’s machining precision with Liebherr’s system expertise.
The philosophy of Starrag machining centers is to complete as many work steps as possible in a single clamping operation. This approach ensures maximum repeatability, reliability, and dimensional accuracy for safety-critical components, enabling over 95% machine availability across the series, even for machines installed nearly two decades ago.
Liebherr-Aerospace’s Lindenberg site combines four Droop+Rein FOGS machining centers with robot-supported tooling, laser measurement, and integrated automation. This ensures highly efficient production of landing gear components with precise tolerances, reducing downtime and optimizing throughput for large-scale aviation manufacturing.
