BIG KAISER, a global leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, has announced the world’s smallest digital fine boring head, the EWE Downsize, also known as EWE 04-7.

The EWE Downsize, which is part of BIG KAISER’s latest 4th generation of fine boring heads, helps make the machining of workpieces safer, faster and simpler, thus improving process reliability.

To be as compact as possible, the EWE Downsize does not have its own display to show diameter adjustment. Instead, it connects wirelessly via an app specially developed by BIG KAISER for smartphones, tablets and smart watches.

This external app runs on both iOS and Android operating systems and substantially simplifies the monitoring and configuration of fine boring heads to make operators more efficient and reduce the risk of costly errors. Tolerance zones are indicated by dynamically changing colors on the display of the remote smart device, which further improves process reliability.

José Fenollosa, Head of R&D at BIG KAISER, said, “The EWE Downsize is the vanguard for future developments in the field of micromachining, demonstrating the strength of BIG KAISER’s in-house development capabilities in both analog and digital solutions. This boring head is just one of many new and innovative products developed and manufactured by BIG KAISER, ideally positioning the company to grow with Industry 4.0 and the digital transformation of manufacturing.

The EWE Downsize has a length of 26 mm and an outer diameter of 19.6 mm, which makes it ideal for machine tools with spindle sizes ISO 20, HSK-E25 and larger. The head covers a diameter range of 0.4 mm to 7 mm and allows infinite length adjustment of the tool holder and a maximum machining depth of 16 mm.
