Calpeda’s new e-idos pumps feature energy and cost-efficient solution with simple design

As far as both industry and housing are concerned, pressurisation groups are the ideal solution for increasing system reliability or when greater system power is required to guarantee maximum comfort in terms of quantity and water pressure.

Research on the matter led Calpeda to interesting results thanks to the new e-idos line of innovative pumps with integrated electronics.

Some factors are becoming increasingly more important when choosing a pressurisation group: energy saving, design simplicity, system cost containment. And the e-idos pumps offer great advantages from all these points of view.

PLUG AND PLAY PRESSURISATION GROUPS

When designing a pressurisation group with several pumps in parallel, a control panel to which all the pumps are connected is usually necessary. It is the control panel which, when it identifies a pressure variation, activates the pumps according to how it was programmed.

In the case of groups with e-idos pumps, this aspect has been greatly simplified.

E-idos pumps, in fact, are already equipped with a pressure sensor; this means that pressurisation groups can be created without having to add control panels and without needing to wire any connection.

The pumps used in the battery only need to be hydraulically connected to create an immediate situation of redundancy: when the pumps are connected at the same pressure threshold, one starts when another one stops.

The simple hydraulic connection also helps keep the system pressure constant. By programming each pump at opportune start/stop thresholds, they activate progressively according to the increases in flow rate and the falls in pressure.

AUTOMATIC CYCLICICITY MANAGEMENT

Redundancy or connected thresholds are not the only methods for making the best use of the potential deriving from the pairing of several e-idos pumps.

Without using wiring and various types of group manager, two systems have been perfected that make it possible to insert the concept of cyclicity into group operation.

When speaking of cyclicity in the case of pressurisation groups, reference is made to the same average operation time of all the pumps over a given period, so that wear is distributed and even. It is usually the control panel which ensures that the same pump does not always starts first when the pressure lowers.

In the case of the e-idos groups, cyclicity can be managed easily by selecting one of the pre-programmed methods – synchronisation or random – from the programming menu.

In both cases just set the same start and stop thresholds, in other words those of the general system, for all the pumps.

With the synchronisation mode, all users have to do is set the number of pumps in the group, and the system will automatically attribute a sequential starting number to each one based on the supply frequency. It will also calculate the intervention thresholds and vary the sequence during operation. This safe, patented synchronisation system guarantees that each pump receives the same workload over time.

In the event of power failures or if the supply is stopped simply for maintenance, the cyclicity conditions reset automatically.

If, instead, the random mode is selected, the starting and stopping of each pump is delayed by an interval that is calculated randomly by the algorithm, with the number of interventions of each pump being distributed in a statistical manner.

THE ADVANTAGES OF E-IDOS GROUPS

The electronics built into the pumps are strategic, even when designing pressurisation groups. It is evident that no external control system means fewer costs and smaller spaces, in addition to notably simple programming and use. While on the matter, remember that each e-idos pump already has its own built-in check valve.

Finally, a consideration on energy saving. Pressurisation groups, being designed specifically to handle partial loads, are naturally oriented towards savings in energy. In the case of e-idos groups, this aspect is amplified by the notable energy efficiency that characterises each e-idos pump.
