During EMO 2015 HAIMER presented the final version of Duo-Lock™, a modular interface for carbide tool heads which was developed together with tool manufacturer Kennametal.

Based on a proprietary thread design with a double cone bond and an additional third support area in the back part of the interface, the new Duo-Lock™ system provides maximum stability, load capacity and a high runout accuracy of 5µm. During milling applications the chip removal rate increases significantly and for the first time ever a modular milling system is able to achieve a similarly high output as the newest generation of solid carbide milling cutters. Furthermore, the tool life is extended. The Z-accuracy of Duo-Lock™ lies at 10µm and this way even time consuming presetting processes become redundant and the tool can be exchanged directly within the machine.

After some very detailed in-house-tests and external field trials with a number of different customers, the Duo-Lock™ products are available on stock within the end of 2015. In order to establish a compatible high standard for screw-in milling cutters on the market, the patented and trademark protected system is also available for other tool manufacturers via licensing.
