Wood is a valuable resource and, as a fuel from domestic production, crisis-proof and renewable. This not only keeps the added value in the region, but also represents an efficient utilization of their residual wood waste for woodworking and wood processing companies. This is also the case at Holzbau Rohrmoser in Flachau. “With the shredding and recycling of the residual wood from our production and from the construction sites or even from disposable pallets, we get rid of the wood residues quickly and also use them 100 percent as an energy source,” says owner and master carpenter Johann Rohrmoser. The company with six employees has been engaged in general carpentry work since 1992, building wooden houses, carports, roof trusses, balconies and “everything that comes up,” as the company boss explains.

LR700: robust, compact, important

Since Christmas 2016, Rohrmoser has been using an LR700 chipper from UNTHA shredding technology for residual wood shredding. For Johann Rohrmoser, the advantages of the device lie primarily in the cutting system with the swivel pusher as well as the low maintenance requirements. The cuttings from the joinery, the splinters from the hemmer and the return wood from the construction site are fed into the chipper and mixed with the wood shavings, resulting in a particularly high-yield heating material. The wood chips are exhausted into the chip silo directly after the shredding process, where they are temporarily stored and fed into the kiln as heating material via the discharge during the heating months. “This way we get through the winter just fine,” says Johann Rohrmoser, who uses it to heat his entire operation and his adjacent residential building. The LR700 shredder is filled twice a day and runs for about an hour each time. In the three and a half years since the unit has been in use at Rohrmoser, about 250 operating hours have been accumulated. For the company owner, this is already the second UNTHA machine, after a smaller twin-shaft shredder had already provided valuable service for many years. The master woodworker is also highly satisfied with the new acquisition from 2016. He sums up the chipper’s features in three words: “It is robust, compact and, above all, very important for us in our daily work.”

Flexible LR Class

With the LR class, UNTHA has a machine series on offer that guarantees compact shredding for joineries, carpentry stores, sawmills and companies from the wood industry of all sizes. With drive powers from 11 to 60 kW, the shredders with proven 1-shaft technology cover the requirements of operations of all sizes. Overall, the LR series is characterized by its efficient cutting unit, its durability and its particular reliability. Common to all models is their efficiency, economy and ease of maintenance. This guarantees users a homogeneous chipped product between 12 and 80 mm and low cost and operating effort. The end product is suitable both for the chipping plant or for briquetting and is thus doubly energy-efficient thanks to the use of the company’s own residual wood resources. Thus, thanks to UNTHA shredding technology, operators make an important contribution to the sensible use of valuable raw materials from nature.
