The office furniture supplier König + Neurath, which manufactures high-quality furnishing and room solutions at its headquarters in Karben, Hesse, is setting the course for a successful future. The basis for this is to be the shared corporate values and the commitment to sustainable and environmentally compatible management. As a sign of this commitment, the CEO is now presenting the progress report of the family-owned company that has been helping to shape the office furniture industry since 1925.

With the progress report, we are making our clear commitment to the sustainability of our company,” says Hartmut Hagemann, the CEO of König + Neurath AG. “By this we mean a way of doing business that focuses on people, resource conservation, the circular economy and economic stability.” This is particularly important in view of the past years, in which the COVID 19 pandemic left clear traces in the economy and society and triggered a comprehensive change in the world of work. Hartmut Hagemann emphasises: “Especially in challenging times, it is important for us to maintain and further expand our commitment to environmental and climate protection.”

After König + Neurath underwent and renewed a series of corresponding certifications in recent months, the progress report now provides information on all sustainability activities. Among other things, the topics of people (with aspects such as occupational safety or employee satisfaction), environment (for example energy and emissions) or product (focus on development or certifications) are highlighted. A separate microsite on the topic of sustainability has also been set up.

Central corporate values as a guideline

König + Neurath accompanies companies in the process of change – with differentiating style worlds, a high product variety and digital offers, according to the positioning. According to Hartmut Hagemann, the values underlying the manufacturer’s self-image and guiding the entire workforce are authenticity, partnership, high quality, reliability, innovation and dynamism. “Our values give us orientation for our behaviour and our decisions. They convey security and stability. And they are the guardrails for our common path into the future.” People are at the centre, responsible growth has top priority, he said. The topic of sustainability is therefore part of all corporate processes, emphasises the Chairman of the Board.

Hartmut Hagemann also refers to sustainability expert Johannes Brennig, who is jointly responsible for product ecology and product certifications as well as the progress report in the company. “The topic of sustainability is omnipresent in our development processes. Even in the concept phase, we focus on the responsible use of resources, high product quality with a correspondingly long service life and the circular economy.” The sustainability expert is certain: “Sustainability is a matter close to the heart of every developer at König + Neurath.”

Progress Report 2020+2021 – Overview of targets, certifications and voluntary commitments

In the Progress Report 2020+2021 and on the specially set up microsite, König + Neurath shows how the entire value chain is structured: what ecological measures have been taken, what is planned for the future and what path is being taken to reduce the direct and indirect environmental impact in the supply chain and production. For example, it is planned to significantly expand the greenhouse gas balance, implement further energy-saving measures and also to focus more on the issue of sustainability in the company restaurant.

Certificates that provide information about conscious management are, for example, the Blue Angel or certification in accordance with the comprehensive European sustainability standard for office and contract furniture European LEVEL. “All our certified products have reached the highest certification level LEVEL 3,” says Johannes Brennig. The “Furniture Made in Germany” mark of origin also attests to compliance with high standards – just like the partnership-based orientation and the focus on short distances. “As a company, we pursue a high sustainability standard across all company divisions. With our progress report, we can clearly present to all stakeholders which requirements our products meet in ecological, social and economic terms.” This should make it even easier for architects, planners and furnishers to keep the ecological footprint in mind when designing working environments.
