On 29 August 2023, board member Dirk Fischer represented König + Neurath AG at the Job Initiative Ukraine exchange with Andrea Nahles (Chairwoman of the Board of the Federal Employment Agency), Thomas Reimann, Jürgen Peters (both ALEA) and Dr. Frank Martin (Chairman of the Management Board of the Regional Directorate of Hesse) at the premises of the Verband baugewerblicher Unternehmer Hessen e.V..

The aim of the initiative is to offer refugees training or qualifications in various sectors in order to support reconstruction with what they have learned after their possible return to their country. On the other hand, this project can also fill a gap in the often-discussed shortage of skilled workers. The Federal Employment Agency is seen as an important multiplier and supporter for this.

König + Neurath assumes regional responsibility

The family-owned company König + Neurath has been producing exclusively at its headquarters in Karben for almost 100 years. A furniture joinery has developed into a high-tech production centre. With its own metal and wood prefabrication, final assembly and its own fleet of vehicles, the company produces high-quality office furniture and room systems “Made in Germany” on an area of approx. 90,000 square metres. As of 31 August, the company employed 860 people from 28 nations. Due to its proximity to the Main metropolis Frankfurt, Karben has very good connections to the suburban railway network.

As one of the largest employers in the region, König + Neurath is aware of its social responsibility. For one of the leading manufacturers of office furniture and room systems, the sustainable training of young people and the transfer of knowledge in the K+N Academy is therefore an indispensable necessity in order to counter the shortage of skilled workers.

Whether wood mechanics, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, industrial clerks, IT specialists or professional drivers – König + Neurath has been offering a wide range of training opportunities at a consistently high level for many years. The training opportunities are supplemented by the dual course of study in wood technology with a bachelor’s degree in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW).

Currently, 35 young people are preparing for working life in seven different occupational fields. “Our training is an excellent foundation for the professional future of our junior staff, because we place a lot of emphasis on holistic qualification and offer interesting perspectives in professional development,” says Dirk Fischer.

The shortage of skilled workers due to the retirement of the baby boomer generation is also clearly noticeable at König + Neurath. Therefore, the family-owned company is increasingly looking for qualified employees for production and administration. Currently, more than 30 positions are vacant, such as welders, powder plant operators, lorry drivers etc. Dirk Fischer adds: “Through targeted promotion and further training, we not only strengthen our competitiveness, but also increase the satisfaction and motivation of our employees. The challenge of the shortage of skilled workers also brings opportunities. It opens up the possibility to rethink work processes, invest in training and further education and thus actively shape the future.”
