KraussMaffei Berstorff recently signed a cooperation agreement with the IPEC in Linz, Austria. As part of the collaboration, the results of experimental studies are to be utilized. These studies concern the plasticizing unit of single-screw extruders in the area of polyolefin pipe extrusion for future industrial requirements.

Fruitful partnership between science and industry

“We are looking forward to collaborating with a renowned university with such a recognized name in the field of polymer research,” says Prof. Jens Liebhold, Vice President of Extrusion Technology at KraussMaffei Berstorff. “We see this as an important contribution to the expansion of our process knowledge when it comes to processing polyolefins. We will pay special attention to the advantages in the process behavior of Energy Transfer Screws. We are confident that this will allow us to expand the high performance capacity of our products even further. We’ll also fulfill future market requirements for our single-screw extrusion machines with respect to throughput, temperature behavior and degree of homogenization of the polymers to be processed,” Prof. Liebhold continues.

IPEC: Research institute with a focus on sustainability

“In the environment of a fast-developing extractive industry, we have set the goal of turning new materials into innovative products by means of state-of-the-art processing technologies,” stresses the professor DI Dr. Jürgen Miethlinger MBA, Director of the IPEC in Linz. “We deliberately decided on a single-screw extruder from the world market leader to expand our machinery in the TechCenter. We are confident that this will allow us to expand our development work and look forward to innovative collaboration with KraussMaffei Berstorff,” says Miethlinger.

The IPEC was founded in 2009. The research institute focuses on industry-related topics such as machine development and process technology as well as recycling and compounding. Further topics of research include improving production and resource efficiency by means of smart production technology.
